Hi there! It's me again!

I made a sucessfull backup of my original Call of Duty cd.

I was testing my backup CD and I noticed that after a while playing the game "crashes".
What I mean is that although the game keeps running, the objectives doesn't update right after I finish a task, or worse, all my teammates get laggy or paralyzed!
So I have to quit and start the level all over and hope it doesn't crash.

That problem happened when I played COD in my HP notebook. The DVD-RW drive is GMA-4082N. And I installed Alcohol 52% in my notebook in order to play it.

I made a image and burn it with safedisc 3 on my desktop. I will post both my system info (desktop and note).

Generally speaking if an image is bad it will bomb out before the game runs, not during. I would look at driver related issues and even playing off the original CD to see if it does the same to be sure etc.

Do you play the game on another PC too? If yes, do you play it with the backup disk in a CD/DVD RW drive or in a CD/DVD R one? It may be a blacklisting by the means of ATIP reading, try enabling the "Hide Media Type" in Alcohol's emulation options when playing with the disk in an RW drive( note that Nero and other programs won't recognize your rewritable disks as such as far as you have this option enabled).

I played a little on my desktop with my original disk... I'll try to play it with my backup to see what happens. I didn't quite get your question, but my backup is a CD-RW. And In my note I have a DVD-RW drive and in my desktop I have both DVD-RW and CD-RW drives.

This "Hide Media Type" option is the "Ignore Media Type" right? I have that enabled.

Any other suggestion? please.gif

And answer me a question: If I can play the game directly from the image (using virtual drive) then it is not a image problem, but a drive issue right? Can It be "fixed"?

I meant that if you can play the game with the disk in a CD/DVD R drive and not in a CD/DVD RW one then it could be a type of blacklisting based in the ability of an RW drive to detect the media type( CD/DVD ROM or CD/DVD R or CD/DVD RW) by the means of the so said ATIP reading. In this case the "Ignore Media Type" option( thanks for correcting me) would have helped.
Checking in the Alcohol's Copy Protection Database revealed that the game is copy protected with Safedisk 3.10. This is a difficult and very hardware dependant protection sheme to be copied in a backup. Try to copy it with the Alcohol's RMPS v2( made for Safedisk) emulation:
1.Rip the game with the Safedisk 2/3/4 datatype.
2.Burn it with the same datatype. You'll see the option "Burn RMPS data to the disk" checked, let it so.
3.In the Alcohol's emulation options enable the RMPS emulation.
Also you'd better use a CD-R and not a CD-RW, you make things harder this way. Try once again with the CD-RW if you want in case it works so as to avoid making a coaster in case it doesn't, but if it doesn't work you should risk it with a CD-R or just stay with the working image.

I am having trouble also with a Safedisc3.20.030 game. When I click on ignore media type and RMPS in emulation before I burn the image. The boxes do not stay checked, and in the log it shows NO for both. I have nothing but burners as drives in my pc(no virtual drives) How do I get it to keep ignore media type checked? I am using 1.9.6build4719

Thanks!

Here it is.... sorry it took so long. I had to do some work on my PC. I can not get it to run in my DVD-rom or my Sony burner. I downloaded the trial version and used that. In emulation, the settings that I checked stayed checked this time but my copy still does not get past the flash screen without an error window popping up.Thanks for the help!!!

Ignore Media Type and RPMS Emulation are for running the backup not when writing the imag and you don't need RPMS emulation for SafeDisc games.

Use the SafeDisc 2/3 datatype with a low (or lowest) read/write speed for best results.

Creating a Safedisk backup does need RMPS( RMPS v2) when using the Safedisk 2/3/4 datatype and using this datatype is the only way to make a backup with a not EFM capable drive.

@jpnski

As zamiel says the "Ignore Media type" and "RMPS Emulation" options are needed to play the game from a backup( the first only if the used drive is a burner). However if you use the Safedisk 2/3/4 datatype you do need to burn the disk with the RMPS data as you'll be given the option, and of course to enable the RMPS emulation in order to be able to play the game with it.

Opps, thought it was a CD and not a DVD.

Success!!! Thanks Zamiel
There are some odd things going on though. It is a CD not a DVD. I am using the same read image for all the different writes. I used the Sony DVD burner for the read and all the writes. I left everything unchecked in emulation like you instructed. I used the slowest speed = 8X and the data type setting for SafeDisc 2/3/4. The copy protection is version 3.20.030 on this game NFS Underground 2 (Disc 2). The result was a coaster. I tried several different settings = all coasters.

The setting that did work = speed at 8X and I unchecked RMPS.

I am able to play the game in the Sony DVD burner with Alcohol not running in the background, so no ignore media type, RMPS or emulation running at all. Is that supposed to happen?
I am able to just stick the backup copy in the burner and it starts up just as fast as the original. It does not hang for a bit at the flash screen.

How come on the image burning wizard on data type SafeDisc 2/3/4 the write speed defaults to maximum and it checks RMPS to recordable media? If you should use a slow speed and RMPS checked caused coasters for me. Is it different for different burners?

Thanks for all the help and Info!!!

If you burn a disk with the Safedisk 2/3/4 data type and the RMPS data then you need to enable the "RMPS emulation" option in the Alcohol's options in order to play with it afterwards. The fact that you were able to make a working copy without the RMPS data just indicates that the burner you used is EFM capable, in other words capable of reproducing the EFM errors that the disks protected with Safedisk have. However it may still not be capable to do the same with newer versions of Safedisk( Safedisk 4.xx).

I have backed up NFS Underground 2 & Halo which have Safedisc on them and CS condition zero which has securom. They all run fine on the different drives in my PC which is a full sized tower. The problem I have ran into is that I have a laptop which is a Dell Latitude D800 with an Intel Pentium Processor and the DVD-rom drive is a HL-DT-ST GDR8082N and none of my backups will run in the laptop. They all hang at the flash screen and then time out. I have installed the trial version of Alcohol 120% on the laptop and have tried running all 3 games with and without emulation but with no success. An ideas on how to get these games to run on my laptop?

Thanks for the help.

Even though you have previously supplied a system report, you will need to do so again as it has been two months since the original enquiry:

Okay, here it is. 2 things first though. I made a mistake in my last post, my backups of CSCZ with securom runs fine on both my tower and laptop. Nice program guys!!! My hat is off to you. The safedisc was a pain in the butt but after 9 coasters, different reads and writes with different burners and settings and running it in certain drives with the correct settings with Alcohol running in the background when needed. I was also able to get a working back up of halo and NFSUG-2 that works in both computers yahoo.gif

I think the thing that did it for me the most was setting the write speed down to 4X & RMPS for NFSUG-2.

A tip for people that need to back up safedisc games. The Sony does nice burns but it takes over 2 hours to read through the read errors while the Lite-on goes through all the read errors in SECONDS!!!

So there you have it. Still, please feel free to comment on anything here because I can always use your help.
