Ok.. i downloaded the alcohol 120 from free_downloads.. and i tried running the setup, however it doesn't install, and just asks me to reboot. I rebooted the computer, but it doesn't fully reboot. Just boots to a black empty screen. Contacted hp/compaq about the problem, but just told me to come here and ask for support. Im running windows XP media center 2005 with compaq presario/3500 athlon x64 with the update rollup 2 for the media center 2005. If someone could help...that would be great! thanks.

Can you boot to safe mode ?
Reboot into Windows safe mode (hold down F8 after POST and select Safe Mode)

Have you tried either completing the install or uninstalling from safe mode?

Also.. the same thing occurs. It asks me to restart windows to continue the installation, but nothing happens... just seems to make my pc act up.

Which version are you trying to install? is it 1.9.6.4719 or the older 1.9.5.3105?

im trying to install 1.9.6.4719 i guess the newer one. I think it could be the combination of the windows updates and the alcohol 120 that are making the pc act weird. After restarting it from safe mode, it worked perfectly fine in rebooting to the original windows... which was kind of odd.

also i forgot to mention that i also tried installing the daemon tools program, and had the same problem. Wouldn't install and just asked me to reboot windows to continue the installation. That was kind of odd too.

The only difference between 52% and 120% is the burning engine, the virtual drive capabilities and drivers are exactly the same. Have you tried removing 52% and reinstalling 120% now?
