Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?

If your drives are not available in the bios or in Safe Mode when the loading of the SPTD.SYS is bypassed it sounds like more of a hardware issue than a software configuration/clash problem.

Is there anyway you can plug in another CD/DVD drive and see if that appears?

Sorry, I was referring to another IDE drive to try and work out whether your CD Drive maybe faulty.

What exactly is an IDE Drive?
And where would I find it on my computer?

9/10 your CD Drive is an IDE drive so I was referring to trying out another CD Drive. However this should only be done by people who are comfortable with playing around the inside of their computers and in the case I would not recommend it.

Do you have a System Restore CD? If so, have you tried booting from it. If you can boot from it then your CD Drive is still functional and the easiest way would be to use it and restore the computer back to the manufacturer configuration.

Damn, was hoping I wouldn't have to do that

Last time I did that my computer had problems still, might have been because the virus was still there idk
But I'll do it if there is no other way

I don't have the disc, would it do the same thing if I did a system restore through my computer (without the disc)?

It should do as the required files should be on a hidden partition somewhere. However what I was really after was to see if your CD Drive worked otherwise a system restore would be pointless if you get my drift.
