i was told this program gets rid of all the previews and unneccesary stuff on a dvd so a normal 4.7 gb disc can be used as oppesed to a dual layer one. is this true and if so how?

Alcohol cannot do this therefore you have been missinformed. You will need a program like DVDShrink for this.
You're also running a real old trial version, may pay to upgrade to the latest trial version.
