I want to view a word document in a Windows 98 computer without Office. I cannot move the document to another computer.

I went to Microsoft's site to download the Word Viewer but unluckily it required at least Windows 2000 to run.

Does anybody know a solution?

Thanks in advance! smile.gif

Have you tried installing and using Open Office to read the document.

Save it as RTF and word pad should be able to read it if you don't want to download and install Open Office.

Zamiel: Sadly I cannot open the document so I cannot not convert it.

Robbo: Oh yes, I think Open Office is a good way. Let me try it.

Thanks for the replies. smile.gif

It was a bit funny to download a rather big file (over 100MB) and then installed it just to read a small, single document, but the most important thing is that it worked - I could read the document at last. biggrin.gif

Thanks for all the help. biggrin.gif

You could have tried to change the file name ie .img to iso. simple type change and some programs that were not able to read one could read the other would resolve the issue.

BTW youre slacking on your job I am not seeing that many HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOME PERSON ON THE FORUM I NEVER SEEN TYPE.

It was .doc type, I did try to use Wordpad to open it but failed. sad.gif

That is strange, in Windows XP Wordpad can and does open .doc files, even some very large ones( I have the Bible in the ancient Greek prototype- Septuagint and New Testament- and it is more than 9 MB in size).

It all depends on what version of Word it was created in.

I think the versions of Wordpads of XP and 98 are different, and so they have different capabilities.
