I'm really concerned about vIDE support for 64 bit OS's. You currently don't have any and I'd like to know if you're pursuing it. IMHO, 64 bit will only gain in popularity. The dual core chip is infinately more desirable then a single core and the price for said chips is rediculously low. Running them on 32 bit OS's is to my mind, counter-productive. The gaming industry is warming up to the fact already. I haven't shed many tears over not being able to run 16bit code either. They came up with DOSBOX for 8 bit code, my guess is that some slick programmer will come up with WINBOX or 95BOX for 16bit.

I am currently in the minority of individuals running a 64 bit OS, but I don't see that lasting. I urge you to consider this when performing your next upgrade to 120%.

I do realize that I have no idea what is entailed on the programming side, but I know I'm not asking for the impossible (perhaps the very difficult).

as an aside, having read this bit from Jito463:

QUOTE
Companies are hesitant to change unless necessary. Most will make changes for improvement reasons, or to fix bugs, but change for changes sake is rare, if ever seen at all. Since 32-bit applications work, and there's not likely to be any improvement in performance, they'd rather spend their resources focusing on other improvements. Look at when Windows XP x64 first came out 2 years ago. Some software wouldn't work because they were still using 16-bit installers. In a day when everything was 32-bit, they were still clinging to the past with an ancient installer program (not Alcohol, just some other programs in general). Eventually, everything will be 64-bit, but by that time, we'll probably be moving to 128-bit. smile.gif

You can find some re-engineered 32 bit installers at planet AMD. (not a link, just some google advice)

Thank you for your time and I hope you consider my post seriously. [edit] as per Jito's quote, this would qualify as an improvement [/edit]

This is a Daemon Tools Pro Option not an Alcohol one, we have no intention of adding vIDE in our software, we do not rush out to add options to our software that can be found in other software. While Daemon Tools and Alcohol are related in variouse ways this does not mean that what is found in one software will be found in another, both have their own direction and many users find having both softwares on their PC means they are getting the best of both worlds. If you want vIDE option i suggest you purchase Daemon Tools Pro

Thanks for pointing that out to me. DT Pro's vIDE support does not extend to 64 bit operating systems however and would therefore be a waste of money on my part. I will keep an eye on their site however. As you stated, Alcohol has no intention to add vIDE support so it would seem that being patient with DT is my only option.

@krakr
Windows Vista x64 is supported, Windows 2003 x64 and Windows XP x64 aren't - and probably never will.

Why do you need the vIDE?
