Is it possible to have the option that opens a text box to enter the protection name and version number and for Alcohol to load the correct profile and settings?

The drop down data types do this you just need to know which protection your game disc has and then select the correct data type

Is it illegal for Alcohol 120% to tell us what the protection is instead of the other way round? And if not, will it not be the more 'user friendly' way to go?

I think that it isn't "entirely" legal. Daemon Tools were supposed to incorporate such a tool but finally they didn't. Anyway there are freware programs such as Protection ID which do the job. cool.gif

For the last 4-5 builds of Alcohol I have burned "Cough Cough" game images from WEB with the Auto setting and it always worked (did not used to many builds ago and you ended up with a coaster as of game protection).

1. Downloading games from internet (no-CD cracks e.t.c.) is illegal and therefore not supported here in any way.
2. Auto setting? Alcohol doesn't have such a datatype. What do you mean by that?
3. Of course you need to use the correct datatype in order to make a working image/backup of a copy protected disc.

1) I never said I downloaded them.

I still had copies of them be it home made by your Software or not I bet the Vendor still does not like this.

Also I never mentioned NO CD/DVD's but they are not ilegal and Gamecopyworlds front pages has a strict policy on this.

In this day and age running a Disk in a drive if not even done since the last Xbox 360 update (install fully to HDD).

At the end of the day Codemasters were caught giving out a Warez Groups "FIX" to get GR1D to even run properly. wink.gif

If there was no Warez you would not sell Alcohol. wink.gif

2) I cant remember what its called but I DO NOT change anything to burn images of games, since last 4-5 builds it simply works 100% of the time without setting a profile at bottom of console.

3) Cant comment as I rarely do that, its 99% of the time burning an image.

you wrote it.

1. They are illegal or at least they are considered illegal here (and I suppose there must be a reason). Also Alcohol, as stated even in it's options( in the note at the bottom of them- you must click on it in order to see the text) is not for illegal copy of copyrighted material. You are supposed to have the software's disc in order to make an image or backup of it.
2. If the games are SafeDisc protected DVDs then yes it may be possible to make an image with the default settings( the difficult thing in this case is to make a physical copy). As for burning a copy I don't know if you can do it with any copy protection.
3. If it works for you it is OK for me, it seems however that the images "from WEB" have the copy protection already removed.

Try burning these "images" you mention with Nero or a older build of Alcohol and you will see you get a nice Coaster for your Coffee cup. wink.gif

That's why the .NFO stated to install/play using Daemon Tool's and also sometimes needing to run a Anti blacklist too like YASU.

I am well happy I can burn any image and it will install from the "Back Up Copy" now without using likes of Daemon Tools or YASU. smile.gif

I agree with Charalambos, you didn't mention specifically download, but "from the web" sounds identical to me, especially with the use of "cough cough". Therefore this topic is closed.
