Would Alcohol ever be able to incorporate the vIDE feature? Would it be a good idea?

I don't believe this is planned at this point in time.

Because there is no contract to license the vIDE from DTools. So far as I'm aware, DTools has no interest in licensing it out, either.

when using the DT technology yes , but when alcohol soft developed a own than is no need to license it, or!?!?!?

Vitual CD has developed ther vscsi himself or not? is the drive from virtual cd this same or licenced by DT?

Guess you've meant vIDE.

The technique in Virtual CD is more compareable to RealROM (i've PMed you a link in case you haven't heard before).
This has nothing to do with a real virtual IDE controller/drive - vSCSI only gets remapped.

I understand that DaemonTools is at present doesn't have any plans to license vIDE feature. But how about Alcohol 120 % "developing" it's own vIDE feature for it's future versions in near future ?

VIDE drive was basically made for Starforce which wouldn't let you play with an image mounted to a vSCSI drive if it detected any IDE drives. However the newer versions of Starforce don't do it any more and also vIDE drives are being blacklisted by the several copy protections like the vSCSI ones, so the whole virtual IDE thing isn't really so important, vSCSI with YASU (which is implemented in Alcohol as ACID) usually does the job. Yet I don't know if it is considered as a possible future addition to Alcohol.

...but VIDE don't help to circumvent Starforce!

tested it with some titles (older games).

in the case if a PYSICAL IDE DRIVE connected Starforce won't start from a vIDE too! (looks like starforce scan the bus or bios)
you need to unplug it in all cases

the only reason to install a vide is to circumvent protect disc

Not basically, but practically, as in terms of blacklisting it hasn't been updated a while.

Afair last Safedisc version does not work in vIDE without 3rd party tools ...but Safedisc is discontinued anyway.
And also SecuROM 7.40 for the vast majority does not work without 3rd party tools - if at all.

Along with the change of the name from Macrovision to Rovi there was also a re-orientation in the portfolio/core buisness.
I'm still searching for the link to some artice dealing with that topic, but i can't find it atm. blush.gif

I can't be 100% sure, but from what i've read it's true - although there is still a single reference to Safedisc on their side: h**p://www.rovicorp.com/partners/1436.htm
But to me that looks like "making use of leftovers".

Don't be so happy Moonie. Safedisk wasn't a very harsh copy protection. Now the other ones that remain (SecuROM, Starforce, Protect Disc, Tages e.t.c.) will just take its place.
