Hi,

i'm using the trial version of Alcohol 120% for a few days now and i'm trying to make an image of a dvd.
I found which protection the game (STALKER) is using (SecuROM 07.36.0010 & Inno Setup v5.1.1 Module) and set Alcohol to make a SecuRom image.

But my dvd drives (one is a burner) can't read the DPM correctly and therefore the game doesn't recognize it when mounted in a virtual drive.

Do all dvd drives support all protection systems ? If not, which is the best drive to make images ?
When there's no dvd in my drive, the dropdown list contains a lots of protection, but when the dvd is inside, there's only a small portion of it available, is it normal ?

thanks for your help smile.gif

Hi,

Could you please post your System Report as requested by the trial forum guidelines? Thanks!

Hello,

I have removed your System report after reviewing it. Thank you!

Yes, some drives do a better job at reading the DPM as others, but I'm not in a position to tell you which one to pick up right now.

With DVD's you do have less in the list as with CD's, but that is normal. If the protection being used is SecuRom, then use that to make a backup Image. You may try different reading speeds when making the Image, many customers had very different results using the same drive but using it with different reading speeds!
Always install from the Image. Try using the EDP System to deactivate your "real" drives. If that doesn't help, try using ACID to cloak your drives.

Thanks for your answer.

I tried to read DPM at minimal speed and it worked !

And thanks too for the tip about ACID, but i haven't found anything about EDP System, either on the internet or the help section. Can you give a link about this please ?

About the "best dvd drive" : maybe you can tell us which ones the team is using ? smile.gif

Any suggestions ? should i change my dvd drive ? Or is it impossible to make an image of this game ?

Open Alcohol => View => DVD/CD Drive EDM System => Click on your real drive and deactivate it (Don't forget to reactivate your drive afterwards!)

Try several speeds as you did with the other game, yet maybe you won't find a working one. It seems that your drives really aren't very good at this job (I suppose you have tried with both of them). By the way are they supported by Alcohol (if they aren't then it will be stated in the system report, in their properties). If they aren't you can contact the Alcohol Support Team at support_team@alcohol-soft.com and ask for support to be added.

Another member of the forum reported that Clear Sky is copy protected by TAGES which isn't yet copyable with Alcohol. Furthermore copy protections may be different for the same game in different regions, so you'd better use ProtectionID (you can find it in the web) to verify the copy protection of the games that you can't make working images of.
