Dear Support,

Sorry, I meant CAN'T by-pass Securom!

My friend has purchase a Chinese dictionary (Hanyu Da Cidian) back in 1997 and was managed to use Alcohol to run it without disk. I recently bought my own CD copy (new release in 2010 Sept) but cannot do the same. I've already downloaded the latest Alcohol and created the image with the lowest speed and highest precision but still Securom detected that I have CD emulator and won't let the program run.

Is it possible that Securom has come up with newer technology that Alcohol has not caught up to cloak? I've already have A.C.I.D. running...

btw, does "RMPS" needs to be checked when making the image? It wasn't checked...I thought that's for burning disk only.

Any help is appreciated. I do have multiple dictionaries on disks (all authentic copy and paid for!!) that I need to run in parallel. Please help!

Hello Bear,

Thank you for posting your system report, which I have removed after reading.

Please check the SecuRom version (look for a tool called Protection ID).
The dictionary was on CD?
Please explain exactly how you made the image (settings, speeds, etc. ...).

Thank you, Support.

> Please check the SecuRom version (look for a tool called Protection ID).

Disk scanned by Protection ID v0.6.4.0 JULY, release 7/2010.

SecuROM Signature v4.85/5/7 (or higher) (CD)

> The dictionary was on CD?

Yes, regular 700MB CD

> Please explain exactly how you made the image (settings, speeds, etc. ...).

By "Image making wizard"
1X Read speed
Datatype = SecuROM *NEW(4/5/7)
Data Position Measurement (Precision: High) 1X
Image format .mds

Everything else default setting.

I also contacted the dictionary supplier and she seems to hint that a disk is a must, "especially for Windows 7".... A new type of protection?

Hope you have a solution for me... Thanks again!

btw, just remembered....

Before I tried with Alcohol, I just made a regular ISO image...of course failed to run.

Would SecuROM be smart enough to have some sort of memory registered on my machine?

Would it help to run that "SecuROM removal tool"?

Hello bear,

Do you have / had any other similar software like alcohol 120% installed before that?

Did you install from your image or from CD?

Open Alcohol, click on View, then click on DVD/CD drive EDM system, then disable your drives (except the drive of Alcohol 120%).

Run ACID and cloak your drive(s).

Yes, I've installed Daemon Tools Lite before, but that was uninstalled before I installed Alcohol 120%.

> Did you install from your image or from CD?

Installed from image.

Alcohol drive should be the only drive, but I'll check when I have access to the laptop later.

This I have a question. When I ran ACID, the box for "SecuROM" is checked, but the "cloak" button was grey out. Is that normal? I was assuming because it's already cloaked so it's grey out. Or was there something wrong? Thanks.

Next time you run ACID, click on "Uncloak" and then see if you are able to "Cloak" again.

OK, checked, I only have the only virtual drive created by Alcohol and the real physical drive when I view DVD/CD drive EDM system.

> Next time you run ACID, click on "Uncloak" and then see if you are able to "Cloak" again.

This time when I run ACID, the "Uncloak" button is grey out instead but not the "Cloak" button. But when I clicked the "Cloak", nothing happened.

The Log of ACID says, "Detected 2 optical devices(s), 2 physical & 0 virtual devices(s)". So already cloak?

The "cloak" and "uncloak" buttons in ACID didn't seem to work properly on my machine... Any known issue with Win7 64-bit system? Should I attempt un-install and re-install Alcohol?? Trial version can be installed twice? I'll pay for the license as long as I can get it to work....very desperate. Thanks for help.

Latest version of ACID have a bug, you need to uncheck/re-check one of the checkboxes before Cloak button gets enabled.

Did try. But when "cloak" button was enable (after I uncheck/re-check the check boxes), nothing happened when I clicked on the "cloak" button, i.e. it didn't get grey out or the "uncloak" button didn't get light up.... So....?? Any patch/fix coming up soon? My 15-days trial is about to end.... :-(

Thanks, updated and now ACID and the buttons seemsto be working properly. It showed "* Cloaking procedure completed." in the last line of the log.

So I uninstalled the CD dictionary, re-started PC, ran ACID, mounted image and re-installed the dictionary. Very unfortunately, it appeared to scan the disc for much longer this time.....then instead of saying "CD emulation found", it displayed "Insert original disc to replace backup copy (1000)" with the following link:

http://www.securom.c...opy&c=1000&1=ct

Ai....so now the cloaking work, no longer "see" CD emulation, but it still "knows" it's not a physical disc!
What sort of protection are they having here?!?!?! Any clue? HELP~ Thanks....

Most probably a very recent version of Securom and ACID doesn't help...

Intead of using ACID, please try disabling your optical drives using Alcohol "DVD/CD drive EDM system" function under View menu and then try to run your game again.

If you get no success then I'm afraid this is probably a very recent copy protection version (maybe included in the latest game patch you installed? you may the game without the patch) that is able to blacklist Alcohol virtual drives (the game copy protection scheme detect them as virtual drives and refuse to run) and then you will need to wait for a future version of Alcohol than should solve this problem.

According information we got from Terramex user:

In my experience error code 1000 means that either the DPM wasn't precise enough or that some environment variable in the users system hinders the virtual drive to emulate the sector timings correctly (e.g. too much other background processes or very fragmented HDD etc.).

Emulation detection or still active real drives shouldn't be a problem at this point.

If 1x doesn't work for you when obtaining the DPM data try 2x and 4x, you may be successfull.
It is also possible that your drive isn't good enough for DPM, so trying again with another drive may help. In anyway error 1000 means a not adequate image.
