I am dealing with archiving lots of old CD-R's, many of which will be failing due to bit rot, scratches etc.

A lot of CD's seem to have read errors on random sectors, which when I clean the CD seem to fix one but cause another... I've tried different drives.

What I would like to to do is do one scan when it reads what it can, and then to passive reads that try to re-read the bad sectors. A process that could be repeated, with the CD been remove in between until eventually a complete read of each sector is made.

Once completed the MDS/MDF could be saved on some cloud storage.

Any chance of this feature? It would become much valued given the age of old CD-R's now.

You can try this: Alcohol's Options>Reading>Number of retries before reading error (set a value different than 0, as many as you want).

I'm already doing that but:

1) sometime I need to take the CD out to try polishing again

2) I find the old CD-R work better when cold. By the time you add retries the CD-R is now warm.

My suggestion would allow the CD to be removed, cleaned, cooled down and possible even retry the missing/bad sectors using a different CD/DVD/BD drive.

I don't know if this is possible, I doubt that the Development Team can spend time on this.

There is a real danger this product could turn out like CDRWIN3 .... where updates were just "add more drives" ....

Seems devs aren't interested in adding any new features that add value to the software.  :(
