The migration to 64bit has begun. I'm not talking about crappy itanium-64. Intel and Mircosoft have agreed that the AMD64(extended-64) system will be the new functioning base for windows. 64-bit drivers are in need at the moment, and so far there arent any cd-emulation solutions that work under 64-bit windows. Porting Alcohol to a 64-bit enabled version is not difficult.

Be the first out there!

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 64 bit 2000MHz Retail inc.fan (3 yr.warr.) £135.95

from microdirect.co.uk. This is pretty cheap, the price has fallen alot in the past few months. If im looking for a new CPU now, ill definitely get an AMD Athlon 64.

The fact remains that Windows XP/2003/Longhorn 64 bit editions are still in alpha (maybe beta) stage.

Last I heard (which was a couple months ago admittedly), the WinXP 64-bit version was in early beta testing. So I would imagine it's probably half-way through the beta process at this point, give-or-take.

I'm running an AMD 64 w/WinXP 64 system. If any alcohol devs want a beta tester, I'm game.

Add me to the queue, I'm running the prize package from area-64 as my gaming system. Currently I'm dual booting the 64-bit XP beta and the standard 32-bit XP Pro but would love to switch fully to the 64-bit version once more of my hardware and software has drivers or is ported.

I too would like to see a 64bit version, and I'd like to join the beta testers.
Got a dual Opteron 246 system with a right mix of drives.

Any ETA for when work will begin?

Yes the rush for a 64-bit version isn't needed at this time. MS has pushed an offical launch back to near year end (basically giving Intel enough time to get their product out IMO). ATI just released their first WinXP-64 drivers, Nvidia been on the ball alittle better, but there is still alot of driver work to be done for the core OS to be considered stable. Until that time, I don't think the Alcohol dev team will chase tails trying to figure out who's bug is cause what problems. I too would love to test a 64-bit version on my emachine A64, but like zamiel said, all in good time.
