I buy a new TFT monitor for my pc and i read somewhere that if you dont have a screensaver,your TFT pixels will be stuck and your monitor will be unuseable.Is this true????

You tell me that there is no problem??But i found a logical explanation,if you don't move the mouse or do something and the image stay there for a long time it's logical to stuck the pixels or something like that.I am not sure that's why i want to learn about it.

That is the same with CRT's and TV's. The image can "burn" into the screen, but normally this happens if you have the same screen and never turn off your moniter for extremely extended amounts of times over years.

We use to have a lot of TFT's at my old work. This did happen to one or two but they were on 24 hours a day for a considerable time. The likelihood of you having the same problem is slim, unless you plan on leaving it going on the same screen for quite some time.

Rather than a screensaver, just turn it off.

If you are worried about this then just run a screensaver...... Most Windows installs come with some, or there are some free ones on the net....

Skyline this is simple. IF you want to see cute bunnies run across the screen or pictures of them it doesn't matter. The display needs to change or youll have burnin. In big picture each monitor, flap pan, and chip has a product life. Be it 2days or 20years. IF you leave the monitor on its time taken away from that total amount of product life. Does that mean it wont work past it no. Just means thats what the company tested under similated extrem tests ( used to build night vision goggles). Persoanly I leave my monitors off unless I am around the house and know ill be back within x amount of time in those cases I have screensavers running. When I go to bed at night I cut them off. Either way for normal use niether one is bad. just keep a changing or moving picture to keep burnin from taking place.

Forgot to say if you download one of those FREE screensavors youll be posting in Trons adware spyware post wink.gif. Don't do it biggrin.gif.

Normaly I would say no, but just like with anything anything is posible. A plane could drop a ton of crap in your house wile your sleeping and the cat is having sex while a snail pooing in your lawn.

That is really imposible. With the exception of a species- guess which... wacko.gif - every animal species has sex only with their kin, so do the cats. laugh.gif

Some burning apps have a setting not to activate the screensaver whilst the writer is in action.

From my personal opinion, I should say your computer determines whether screen savers affect the disc recording (and other) job. If you have a super fast computer, then ok, on the other hand, the reverse applies.

In addition, there are many functions of computer which are (I will call them) 'beautiful but not practical', (Excuse me, perhaps this expression is very angular, because I just directly awkwardly translate it from Chinese, anyone who knows the English one, please kindly tell me.) such as this one Screen Saver and automatic power saving. I always shut them down because my computer is slow.

Especially the automatic power saving one, (I do use manual power saving) just imagine when you are:
watching VCDs
burning CDs
downloading big files (especially using a modem)
scanning discs
defragging discs
reading long essays
and many more

I just want to say 'Oh thank you. Nice to meet you Power Saving, my dear faith friend.' when it appears to me.

My cousin bought a 15" CRT in mid 1997, he has been using it everyday, and it still works perfectly. Although it is Sony brand and may seem with a better quality, we should not worry too much with other brands. And for LCDs, screen savers have a far less effect on them I should say.

P.S. I just found a word : 'Flashy'. Maybe it could be a substitution to it.

@MaLing
The way you said it is good. Flashy would work, too.

@Skylineboy
I'm with Tron and MaLing on this one. We've got 15" LCD's at work we've used for 4 years since the store opened with no screensavers and they're still going strong. I've never used a screensaver either. If I'm going to be gone for a long period of time, I may shut my monitor off. Or you can set power saving to shut the monitor off which doesn't have the same effect that the screensaver does. It just stops sending signals to the monitor and puts the monitor in sleep mode. Perhaps you should try that if you're worried about burn-in.
