Rather than a screensaver, just turn it off.

That is really imposible. With the exception of a species- guess which... - every animal species has sex only with their kin, so do the cats.

In addition, there are many functions of computer which are (I will call them) 'beautiful but not practical', (Excuse me, perhaps this expression is very angular, because I just directly awkwardly translate it from Chinese, anyone who knows the English one, please kindly tell me.) such as this one Screen Saver and automatic power saving. I always shut them down because my computer is slow.
Especially the automatic power saving one, (I do use manual power saving) just imagine when you are:
watching VCDs
burning CDs
downloading big files (especially using a modem)
scanning discs
defragging discs
reading long essays
and many more
I just want to say 'Oh thank you. Nice to meet you Power Saving, my dear faith friend.' when it appears to me.
My cousin bought a 15" CRT in mid 1997, he has been using it everyday, and it still works perfectly. Although it is Sony brand and may seem with a better quality, we should not worry too much with other brands. And for LCDs, screen savers have a far less effect on them I should say.
P.S. I just found a word : 'Flashy'. Maybe it could be a substitution to it.

The way you said it is good. Flashy would work, too.
@Skylineboy
I'm with Tron and MaLing on this one. We've got 15" LCD's at work we've used for 4 years since the store opened with no screensavers and they're still going strong. I've never used a screensaver either. If I'm going to be gone for a long period of time, I may shut my monitor off. Or you can set power saving to shut the monitor off which doesn't have the same effect that the screensaver does. It just stops sending signals to the monitor and puts the monitor in sleep mode. Perhaps you should try that if you're worried about burn-in.
