I've successfully backed up Command and Conquer Generals Disc 1 in as much as it plays the single player version fine however, when i tryed to play a network game via LAN, it tells me the game has detected a syncronisation error which means that the other player may have edited their version or something along those lines. Is there any way round this as i now only use the game for online and LAN play. It works fine when i play the original but when i use the copied version, it wont allow me to enter the game. Many thanks for any feedback.

The image should function the same as the original disc. What settings did you use to make the image?

I used the "SafeDisc 2/3/4" datatype with "skip reading errors" and "fast skip error blocks" checked. The reading settings were as follows...

Examine accuracy of data read from physical device - Checked

Number of retries before reading error - 0

Starting advanced sector scanner after - 8 - continuos bad sectors

Default A.S.S jump factor - 100

Default DPM measuring Precision - High

Lock the device while getting DPM data from the media - Checked

Enable Enhanced Weak Sector Scanner during dumping - Unchecked

...apologies if this is not enough info/wrong info for settings, please let me know if so.

I' m most grateful for the feedback, many thanks.

Are you sure about the game's copy protection? Did you made an image first and can you play the game with it mounted to a virtual drive? Since you use the Safedisk 2/3/4 datatype to make the image you must burn it with the same datatype which includes "Burning RMPS information to the disk" and afterwards activate the Alcohol's "RMPS emulation" option in order to play with it.

The copy protection for C+C Generals is Safedisc 2.80.010 and have double-checked this in the Alcohol Games Copy Protection Database. I made an image first then burnt to several disk's with and without RMPS emulation, and have also mounted the image in a virtual drive and played it with RMPS emulation activated. Both disk's and the image in a virtual drive work absolutely fine when playing the single player game but when i try to play the multi-player network/online section, i get an error message and can go no further. The exact message it says is this:-

Game has detected a mismatch.
This means that the multi-player game has lost synchronization data between the player's. It is possible that your opponent has modified his version and you may want to include him on your ignore list.

The only thing's i can add to this is when i made the image (and also subsequent images with various settings altered) it scroll's down quite a number of " Disc read error at: " messages with various block numbers following. It does this for about 1/4 of the burn time. I've changed various settings apart from Safedisc Datatype but it always reads disc errors. The disk has no scratches or marks, and is practically brand new. Could the read errors be the reason it doesn't work for the multi-player version? Also, i noticed that there is a datatype setting " Safedisc 2/3/4 (EFM* Writer) ". Could this be the setting i need? I will try dumping an image tonight with this datatype enabled and see if this helps at all, but if anyone can shed some light on this matter it would be much appreciated.

I'm very grateful for your time.
Many thanks.

The read errors are typical of Safedisk. The "Safedisc 2/3/4 (EFM* Writer)" datatype is for drives capable of producing a working copy of Safedisk protected disks without the need of emulation. However since the problem is present when you play with the image then it is probably irrelevant with the burning method. There is the possibility that this game has additional copy protection and not only Safedisk( you can scan the disk with Protection ID to check it) or, more possibly, that an additional check (e.g. based on a unique key for every disk) is performed when you connect to the game's server. If this second one is the case then you can only use your original for online multiplayer gaming.

O.k, thanks very much for your time, i'll try scanning the disk with Protection ID to be sure that all possibilities are covered. Thanks again for your help.

All the best
