Try changing the default control interface in Alcohol's options to the Windows one.

Try deleting the drive from the device manager and reboot to let windows add it back in again.

Try deleting the lowerfilters and upperfilters keys from the registry, then reboot.

After uninstalling Alcohol you must uninstall the SPTD driver also. For this purpose use the standalone SPTD installer/uninstaller that you'll find at www.duplexsecure.com.

Have you booted up in Safe Mode, bypassing the loading of SPTD.SYS driver (if its still loading/installed) to see if the drive goes?

Try this again but first make sure that SPTD and Alcohol are uninstalled. Check for remnants in the Alcohol's installation folder( delete it if it still existsts) and check the Windows\System32\Drivers folder to make sure that sptd.sys has been deleted and also check the registry for any remaining entries related to Alcohol and sptd.

ok ive tried everything and nothings changed i got in touch with medion my pc supplier and they are posting me out a replacement disc to set my pc back to its factory settings which i would proberly have done already if i hadn't lost the damn thing my only concern is it my book here it says put the disk in your pc turn of the computer then chose retore to factory settings when given the prompt i'm a little concerned its not going to recognize theres a cd in the drive i'm hoping this is unfounded can you put my mind at ease and i would like to thank you guys for your efforts i know as they say ###### happens sometimes and i'm pretty sure if i was a little more pc litterate we could have resolved this but i feel i'm more likely to do more damage than good if i keep trying to find a fix as it is my pc is running fine apart from the drives issue so if i can get get back to the factory settings i'm hoping everything will be resolved thanks again Alan

Have you been able to boot from any CD? If so, the drive should be ok and its definately a conflict somewhere. If not, then the drive might be faulty.

no like i said since i installed alcohol and unistalled it the drive hasn't worked since even though it says its there and working ok i also plugged in a external dvd drive that worked until i rebooted by pc so what ever it is effecting any cd/dvd drive so i cant see it being a problem with the drive i guess if the restore back to factory status dont work i will get onto the company my pc is still under warranty i'll say the drive aint working and see what they say

Make sure you back up your files first. Restoring to factory settings will wipe everything from the computer and reset it to the way it was when you bought it.
