Hi folks,

I downloaded the "Alcohol 52% FE Ver 1.9.7.6221" from CNET and couple of other Reputable download sites (Free-Codecs, FileForum).

For your Info on my laptop I have Vista Home Premium SP1, 64-bit.

I have "Comodo Firewall Pro" with Defense+ activated and "Comodo Memory Friewall" and Avira Antivirus.

When installing Alcohol 52% ... Comodo alerted me that there is 2 functions that are acting funny ...

- "Ret2LibC" and
- "SPTDinst.exe"

Comodo tells me that these programs usually act as Trojan and such. So, I disallowed it. The installation kind of went along.

Q1: Are these really TROJANS? Or Flase Positives?

Q2: Is "SPTD" file a brand new file or a Microsoft file anyeway?

Q3: The sites that I mentioned above ... do you Alcohol trust to HOST your FREE version?

Q4: How come when I go to "Add/Remove Proggram" I don't even see the Alcohol 52% as installed program? However the program exists under "Program Files (x86)" Alcohol Soft/Alcohol 52 !?!?!?

Q5: Assuming there are NO Trojans and so forth .... Since I have screwed up the initial INSTALL ... how should I go about re-installing this program correctly!?!?

Q6: Should I upgrade to the lastest SPTD? Even for the Alcohol 52% Freeware!

Q7: Do you have a Downlaod Site on your Forum for the Alcohol 52% Freeware?

Thanks,

G!:)

The trojan alert you are getting is most likely a false positive. However you can download our free edition directly from our servers from http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/ and if the problem persists, then yes, its a false positive.

The version you are installing is also an older version and you should download and install the later one from our site that has the new SPTD bundled with it.

Please provide your system report from your current Alcohol installation (located under the view menu inside Alcohol). Thanks.

Hi Admin,

1st of alll THANKS for even responding to a Freeware question.

I will look up that file you are asking for and attach it.

Q1: However, since my install was never Registered under "Add/Remove Prrogram" I wonder if I can find the LOG for you.

Q2: Should I just run the new version over the OLD BAD Install?

Q3: Can ALcohol 52% still make copies of CD or is it strictly a Virtual Machine Emulator?

Thanks,

G!:)

Hi Admin,

Just to share some more info.

Appreciate the link to your Official download ... I downloaded the latest version and installed it ... said yes to all Comodo FP Q's.

Since it was not what I thought it would for me I decided to uninstall the Alcohol 52% ... or may be I did not know how to use it.

So when I went to the "Add/Remove Programs" the software was not even Registered in that window.

I tried uninstalling it using the "Uninstall" .exe from Program Folder and NO GO ... it said it does not recognize the file.

So, I restarted my Vista Home Premium 64-bit in the "SAFE" mode and manually uninstalled the Program Folder and basic files that I sawn ... have not bothered with the the Reg Cleaner yet.

Q: Is there an Un-Installer for this program to give it a Good Clean Un-install!?!?

Thanks,

G!:)

The program is not present in the "Add/Remove Programs" list due to being blacklisted by copy protections in the past. You can, however, uninstall it from the Start Menu entry or the uninst.exe in the Alcohol's folder as you did. As it happens with all programs sometimes the automatic uninstallation doesn't work so you have to do it manually as you also did. As for the registry just search with "Alcohol" as a keyword and delete the entries that you will find.

About the program itself: Alcohol 52% FE is capable of making images of copy protected disks( Daemon Tools Lite aren't) and creating virtual drives on which you can mount the images and use them in place of the original disks. It doesn't have the burning engine that Alcohol 120% has but it has all the rest.

Physical copies no but images that you can mount to a virtual drive and use them in place of the original physical prototypes yes.

Hi Charalambos,

I made copy of a Game CD (COD2 version 1.0) because my disc is getting pretty beat up ... anyway, I also made a copy of it with CloneCD and BlindWrite ...

Q1: How come my Alcohol Image is smaller for all the 6 CDs compare to the other 2 progy!?!?

Q2: Alcohol made images ... can I use the images for Installing the program again when my discs are no longer readable and I have to swap out my laptop HDD to a bigger and faster one?

Thanks,

G!:)

You need to supply a complete system report from within Alcohol when posting in the trial forum as previously indicated. Thank you.
