I just upgrade to Windows 10 and upgrade Alcohol 120 to 2.0.3.7126.

The is an error box appear during the installation:

Device Driver Installation failed!

Then it can proceed and install the program. After installation, it seems to run but there is no virtual device added. There is no way to add one even I change the config. option.

Any hints?

Try downloading and installing SPTD 2.04 from www.duplexsecure.com and check if it helps.

Do you mean SPTD? But the latest version is 2.04 only. What is 2.2.0.0?

Berni, There is currently on SPTD version 2.04 on the duplexsecure site. Are you referring to the older 2.02 version?

@Support - I uninstalled per your instructions using the SPTD utility, and then reinstalled Alcohol 52. The driver failed at that point, at which point I installed the SPTD version 2.04, but this did not resolve the issue. For the time being I have reverted back to windows 8.1; please advise when you have released a version that is fully compatible with windows 10.

Thank you

David

I initally had trouble after upgrading from Win 8.1 to 10.  To fix, I uninstalled Alcohol 52, then installed SPTD 2.04, then installed the latest Alcohol 52 again.  No problems now.

thanks!

Here is the link for the SPTD 2.04 downloads:

http://www.duplexsec...om/en/downloads

Make sure to get the right version (32 or 64 bit) for your version of Windows.

Try downloading and installing SPTD 2.04 from www.duplexsecure.com and check if it helps.

Of course you must go to downloads section in order to download the file.

I have tried uninstall SPTD and every bit of Alcohol

Then downloaded and installed the latest version of SPTD 2.0.4

After reboot and tried reinstall Alcohol 120 again -> NO LUCK . Failed to install the driver.

What I noted is that during the reinstallation of Alcohol, it tried to install SPTD again and ask me to reboot to go on. It seems that it tried to reinstall an old version of 2.0.2 for Alcohol 120.

I have also tried the Alcohol 52 free edition and the process is similar. This time, it tried to install the even older SPTD 1.8.6!

What happen and any way to get round?

Alcohol installs SPTD at its installation, the current version installs SPTD 2.02. You must install SPTD 2.04 after the installation of Alcohol.

I had the same issue of no virtual drives upon installing Windows 10.  I received the same error message.  I found this forum and followed the suggesstion to install SPTD 2.0.4.  No joy.  I then uninstalled Alcohol 120% including exercising the option to remove all registry data.  I could not uninstall SPTD.  Upon restart I installed Alcohol 120% again (2.0.3.7612).  I verified that SPTD 2.0.4 was still installed.  Still no virtual drives.  I restarted again.  This time Alcohol asked me to register and then brought back my saved images in the library!  It also allowed me to add virtual drives again.  As far as I have checked, all is back to normal.

Thanks for taking time to populate this forum.  I am doing my part to share my story to help others who encounter this until it is addressed in a future update.

I have the same problem.

After upgrading to Windows 10 I could not install any virtual devices.

I tried all the solutions I read about in this forum (uninstalling and reinstalling Alcohol 120, Updating SPDT 204, cancelling all the Alcohol registry data...), but to no avail.

From what I read, it appears that this problem only affects a limited number of unlucky customers, but I sincerely hope a new version will include the solution to this problem.

I have had the exact same issues as you are having and did what you did, but nothing so far. Up until today, the virtual drives were working in Windows 10. Then they disappeared.

Under "Services" the Alcohol Virtual Drive Auto-mount Service stops immediately after starting. I have tried numerous times to uninstall and reinstall both Alcohol 120% and the SPTD 2.0.4 drivers.

During reinstall I got the error "Alcohol virtual ahci controller management service fail".

At wit's end here.

Some time has gone by since this problem was first reported. I am still unable to add any virtual drives and the emulation feature has gone.

Has anybody come up with a solution (not one of those already mentioned in this forum)?

Or, as an alternatrive, can we be reassured that somebody is actually working in order to solve this problem of incompatibility with Windows 10?

Thank you.

@SimonTHX

Did the virtual drives disappear after a Windows update?

There is supposed to be a next version of Alcohol which probably will have this issue fixed.

Unfortunately today the same happened to me. No virtual device can be added. Alcohol just shows the dialog it is adding the virtual device but nothing actually happen. The dialog closes itself after several seconds and the number of devices is 0 and no device is present in Windows. No other error message, etc. is shown. Reinstalling Alcohol or SPTD doesn't help.

You are on Windows 10? KB4462933 must be the problem, have a look at the next topic.
