Is there a utility that can determine what type of protection a cd-rom has? Free one of course. I'm trying to image civilizations 4.

If you're a registered customer then you should register for the Customer only forums, if not then you've been a member of the forums for over two years perhaps its time to make the purchase to support the continual development of Alcohol.

Download and use WinRAR to open the file and extract its content, it has a free trial period( ... as Alcohol whistling.gif ).

I found a program to open it, but when I ran protectionID I got mixed results. I checked everything on the left side of the program, put the civ cd in and hit scan. It didn't show anything about any kind of protections at all. Is that not the way to run this program?

You should scan the main exe file for the game to find the protection used.

Thanks, I did that and found it's safedisk 4.60. I don't think alcohol has a fix for this yet, or do they?

Make your Image then mount the Image to a Virtual Drive, install play the Game (dont forget if the Game is on a DVD you cannot choose a Datatype).

PS: contact Support with your Alcohol account Email Address then you can access the Customer area.

I selected safedisk 2,3 and 4 then made the image. I put it in G:\Fireaxis. When I dbl clicked on the virtual drive to run the game I pressed play then it went to the games loading screen and stopped and said I need to insert the disk. Could you explain what you mean by install play the Game? also it's on a cd-rom. I've owned alcohol 52% for a while now and it's the first time it don't work. Help!

Success! I used the utility you suggested and lo and behold it worked. I'm very happy to get to this point as I've been messing with it ever since I bought the game. Thanks much
