I'm trying to install alcohol 52%. It gives me the ACPI error when I try to add a virtual drive. ACPI is installed when I look in my windows system files, so I'm not sure why I'm getting the error. There is no ACPI setting to enable or disable in my bios.

I just downloaded the installer from one of your linked download sites, so this should be the latest version.

What does the error exactly say, do you get an error number?

Have you tried to install SPTD on its own before Alcohol?

What type of motherboard do you have?

Are you running the latest drivers for your motherboard?

MSI motherboard with an AMD Athlon 64 processor using nForce4

SPTD? I don't know what that is. Is that a separate package?

Unable to add adapter. Device problem 39. ACPI function in the BIOS must not be turned off.

(There isn't even an ACPI function in my bios that I can find.)

Do you have a model number for your motherboard?

SPTD is available from http://www.duplexsecure.com and is used for the Virtual Drive.

I'm using the v6.00PG version of AwardBIOS, but I don't see the model number for my motherboard.

I tried downloading that SPTD thing, and it said I was using version 1.38 (I guess it came with 52%) and then it updated it to 1.42, but it still hasn't fixed the error.

I'm running into similar issues... I've got several old CPi-[x] Dell Latitudes that have bum CD-ROM drives... I'm trying to get Alchol 52% Free version to get a virtual drive in order to load software. Every one of these machines I've tried fails to create a virtual drive after installation. I've seen both error 31 and error 39.

I've gone into the BIOS, enabled ACPI settings that found to be disabled.

I've also done uninstall-reinstalls of A52% that I've seen on other posts. This too has not resolved the problem.

Very interested in solving this problem... I was hoping to not have to buy replacement CD-ROM drives for $60, when these machines are worth less than that... but they can serve a purpose if I can get software installed on them. (I'm Ghost-casting the base, networked configured OS... and can install so things from network shares... but I've got a few wares that I can't do that with... but the virtual CD-drive would work perfectly).

I just had this same error. Reason being is that I've just re-installed Windows XP SP2, and am in the process of setting everthing up again.

Here's what happened when I tried installing version 1.9.6 (Build 5429):

1. After the SPTD driver (which is part of the Alcohol installer) installed, forcing a reboot.
2. Rebooted
3. Installed Alcohol to a folder on a network drive. Installed everything except iSCSI service and multi-language support. This folder happened to be over the top of an existing Alcohol installation.
4. Started Alcohol and tried to create a virtual drive: Device Error 39. I heard three consecutive "new device found" beeps before the error message appeared.
5. Checked Google.

After checking Google and finding this page (and few related - try "alcohol device error 39"), I tried this:
1. Downloaded SPTD exe from http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads
2. Uninstalled Alcohol.
3. Uninstalled SPTD by running the SPTD exe again.
4. Rebooted
5. Installed SPTD
6. Rebooted
7. Installed Alcohol to a folder on a network drive, this time installing the iSCSI service as well.
8. Started Alcohol and tried to create a virtual drive: Device Error 39. I heard three consecutive "new device found" beeps before the error message appeared.
9. Checked Google again.

Finally, after checking Google and the support forum, I had a bright idea.
1. Uninstalled Alcohol.
2. Rebooted
3. Installed Alcohol to a folder on a NORMAL HARD DISK DRIVE, without the iSCSI service or multi-language support.
4. This time, when creating the virtual drive, I heard a SINGLE "new device found" beep, and then saw that the virtual drive had been created.
5. I tried mounting an image to the virtual drive (an *.mds) and everything worked!

So in this case, I think the problem was that I was installing the software to a network drive. But hopefully this might give you guys some ideas on things to try to get it working if you have the same problem.

I was going to suggest - until I read down to the bottom of your post - that you install Alcohol locally. It's not a good idea to install Alcohol across the network, primarily due to the virtual drives and the local drivers. If your network drive becomes unavailable, that could cause problems.
