I tried to install Alcohol120% on Windows Vista, but i totally forgot that the version is not compatible, so it crashed my Vista whenever i started running Windows.

I couldn't enter Safe mode either, cause after the list of drivers finished loading, it seemed to run a little bit more before the BSOD appeared.

Is there anyway for me to solve this problem? Or i will have to re-install my windows?

I'm currently running XP on a different partition of the hard-disk.

Thanks and looking forward to your reply.

It clearly states in our change logs and on the trial versions download page which version is Vista compatible You could use your Vista disc to repair Vista failing that a clean install of Vista.

I had the same problem, you have to use your windows vista cd and perform a system restore to the point before you installed alcohol 120%.

that should do it.

I too had the same problem yesterday. But my Windows Vista does not have an Restore points to go back to, ie alcohol, unlike some other applications, does not create a restore point for you.

I have noticed that the BSOD only occurs when Windows tries to complete the driver installation after restart. Surely it is possible to disable the startup sequence to allow user intervention before the BSOD kicks in? Please help.......

You can just use one of the restore points( preferably the most recent one) that were created before the installation of Alcohol. Note that you'll have to reinstall any programs that you had installed after this restore point was created.

Boot in safe mode and you'll have the option of canceling the loading of sptd.sys( at least you have it in Windows XP, probably you'll have it in Windows Vista also).

I had the same problem, but I managed to boot again by unplugging my DVD-R drive. If i plug it back in it will bluescreen again while booting.

hit f8 during boot to get the extended boot menu.

Select the option that is somewhat like: Last Known Good Boot

Worked for me.

I don't see where you get that option. When are you pressing F8? in the menu I thought you were talking about, all that was there was

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Start Windows Normally

But no option for last known good configuration. Also, I cannot use the Vista CD because I dont have any restore points! This is very frustrating!

This is what i did to solve tis problem.

1. I started the pc with the dvd and selected the repair mode
2. I selected the prompt option
3. I deleted the map Alcohol .. in Program files
4. Reboot the system after disconnecting my dvd drive
5. installed Alcohol again, this will give an error.
6. I clicked "ok" and alcohol was removed from everywere on my system.
7. shut down, reconnect the dvd and reboot.

Hit F8 while booting up and then select the last good known setup option. This worked for me.

Thank you very much, i had the same problem and originally saw only the list:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Start Windows Normally.

If u want to boot using last known good config and u only see this list, just start pressing F8 repeatedly as soon as u press power on.

I have tried this method several times and still only get the same list of options for safe mode. Is there any other way to get to the option for "last know good configuration" restore points without using the disc? as i dont have a disc.

No, this is the method. You must press F8 either too soon or too late. Try to press it just after the last bios screen display ends.

How do I start the computer using Last Known Good Configuration?
Follow these steps:

1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.

Click the Start button , click the arrow next to the Lock button , and then click Restart.

2. Do one of the following:

• If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.

• If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start, and then press F8.

3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER.

4. If your computer has more than one operating system installed, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system that you want to start by using Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER. Windows will then resume starting normally.

If you still have XP as a dual boot......

Boot up XP, navigate to your Vista partition > Windows > System32 > Drivers, change your view to 'detail', Order by created date, the last two files should be something like 'SCSIVAXa.dll' 'SCSIVAXb.dll' (or something like that). Delete these two files. Boot back into Vista then uninstall Alcohol. Get the latest version and try again. - WARNING - deleting things from this folder at random will definately break your system. If in doubt - persist with the F8 solution.

These files don't exist anymore in the newer versions. Instead of them one can uninstall SPTD with the standalone installer from www.duplexsecure.com.
