I have downloaded both the latest trial version of Alcohol 120% (Alcohol120_trial_1.9.6.5403.exe, 8166272 bytes) and the latest free version of Alcohol 52% (Alcohol52_FE_1.9.6.5403.exe, 8066432 bytes), and neither one of them will complete the installation.

When I run either installer, it proceeds to the point where I can agree to install the Alcohol Toolbar, but regardless of whether I check the box to install the toolbar or not, right after I hit the agree button, the installer will shutdown. Yes, the toolbar does get installed if I checked the box, but that is it. Alcohol does not get installed.

I have tried downloading the installers multiple times from different mirrors, and the results are always the same. So, is there any way to manually install Alcohol or is there a different installer available than what I have already tried?

I am running Windows XP, and I do have v4.09HE of Daemon Tools installed.

Try downloading the standalone SPTD installer from the link below and run that, then try again. If it still fails, try booting into Safe Mode and run setup from there, or try disabling your anti-virus software in case it's interfering with the setup.

I had already done that when I came here and saw the link to v1.50.

I don't run any that is always running. I just use a manual scanner.

Will the Alcohol installation even completely run from safe mode since Alcohol installs a device driver?

Yes it should install in safe mode even though it installs a device driver, also check your systems date time and year settings are correct.

They are correct, but what would that matter with the free version of Alcohol 52%? It does the same shutdown during installation as the trial version of 120%.

Yes, and it does the same thing.

What is the installer supposed to do after the toolbar is installed? That is the point where it is shutting down. When did you start using this particular installer program or this version?

Can you have a look in the event viewer to see if there is a cause? Have you disabled your Anti-Virus software during installation?

The event viewer shows nothing for this installation. I believe only msi installation packages report events since the Windows installer is part of Windows. Alcohol's installer should be rebuilt to use msi if you want event viewer tracking.

I have already covered this above. It's not an anti-virus issue as I don't have anti-virus software running.

After repeated failed attempts of trying to install both the trial version of Alcohol 120% and the free version of 52% on two different PC's, I started searching Google to find another version of Alcohol that might install. I came across an installer named as Alcohol120_1.9.6.5403_Retail.exe (7617664 bytes). This version did not have the toolbar installer in it, and it installed completely. However, because it is not the trial version of Alcohol, it does not run past the loading screen since I have no registration information for it.

So, there is something wrong with your trial version installers specifically with what happens after the toolbar part of the installation. This retail installer appears to be built with the same installation program, and I had no trouble installing it. So, you need to rebuild your trial version installers to get rid of the problem because I doubt I am the only one experiencing it.

Well actually out of over 452167 downloads you are the only one who is reporting this problem, so it is specific to your system, the installers of both retail and trial versions is the same.

Please uninstall Alcohol from your system and delete any installers, be sure to check Program files to be sure no Alcohol folders remain. then download the stand alone SPTD installer from http://forum.duplexs...hread.php?t=361 and uninstall your SPTD layer. Re download the Alcohol trial version installer, be sure not to use any download managers\accelerators then boot to safe mode a re run the installer.

Not necessarily. I doubt that anyone else with the problem would go to the trouble to post about it on this forum especially with all of the trouble it has been for me without anything to show for it.

No, they are NOT the same. Only the trial and free installers contain the toolbar and that is most likely the problem since the installer abruptly exits without notice one the toolbar installation is skipped or completed.

I already did this after I first installed the retail version of Alcohol 120% since it would not run without registration information. Uninstalling and trying to reinstall the trial or free version made no difference.

I suggest that you make installers for the trial version of Alcohol 120% and free version of 52% without the Alcohol toolbar. That would prove that the toolbar part of the installation is the problem.

@OP
I believe what Phoenix was trying to say was that - regardless of whether it's because of the toolbar or not - it must be something unique to your system. Perhaps you have a program that's picking up the toolbar and falsely identifying it as malware and blocking it. I've tested the 52% FE and 120% trial versions without any problems on my two machines and one other. The toolbar installed just fine. Something on your computer must be stopping the installation. We try to help as much as we can, but there's only so much we can do remotely like this through a forum.

@Guest post above mine
Have you tried the suggestions above? What's the exact error message you receive?

Hi, Jito463 thank you for the answer
I am a Chinese So I'm not good at English, sorry for that
I re-install the computer operating system (Windows XP SP2) Is not connected to the computer network
I have not installed any software in addition to alcohol 52% Free Eidition
When I run the installer, Computer suggest the need to restart
When restart, the installation process automatically
When I agreed to the installation of alcohol toolbar, hit the next button, toolbar will be installed in my computer
Then here have not received any error message, the Alcohol 52% FE installation process is not running. i am trouble for that
Alcohol 52% FE can't installed on my computer

I've tried all of the suggestions above. Re-download the installer without use any download managers... try install SPTD 1.5... run setup in Safe Mode... also check my systems date time and year settings are correct...... But it's still cant'be install.

Your English is certainly much better than my Chinese. I understand you perfectly.

This is exactly the same problem I described above. There is no additional software running on either of my two PC's which would interfere with the installation.

So, there you go Alcohol assholes. I am not the only one with this problem.

As I wrote above the only version of Alcohol which will install is the retail version. It cannot be a coincidence that since the toolbar is absent from that installer, it installs without a problem whereas the trial version shuts down and won't install the actual Alcohol software.

Well because I could get neither the trial version nor the free version to install, I resorted to using a cr@ck to run the retail version of Alcohol 120% which runs fine on the same PC's. But, you have no one to blame but yourselves for that because your trial and free installers do not work.

By the way, I love how you filter out the word "c rack" but not the word "assholes."

As you've decided / resorted to using a cracked version of Alcohol I am now going to close this topic. We don't support illegal versions of our software regardless of the situation.
