Last friday, I was notified that 2 of my cousins and grandmother were involved in an auto accident with a 18-wheeler. My grandmother and two of my cousins were air lifter to the ER. Grandma (Hazel) is in the ICU with broken ribs, a fractured scapula (sp?), and a slightly torn spleen, but since her breathing is shallow, her diabetes, and a whole other mess of stuff she is considered in critical condition. My cousin (Susan) has two broken arms and a mess of scratches. She was in surgery to repair most of it but may require another one to remove her staples and put in stiches, she is in stable condition. my little cousin (Charlie) is 4 and was sent to the childrens hospital with not much more then a cut on his knee. His mother (stephanie) did not make it from the scene. She was a single parent since the father is in and out of jail (his father is my close cousin we were like brothers growing up) since I am so close to the father Charlie was like my son or nephew and now is going to have to stay with the grandparents. I would like to ask of you to send prayers/well wishes/positive thoughts for him and the others. Stephanie was the one good thing that happened to my cousin and her life was cut short at 28. She just graduated from college with a degree in architecture (I dont know the actual name of it though). It has been hard on our family since she was family to us. Since yesterday was mothers day it is even harder to type this with out breaking down.

**Update**

Grandma is looking better, her diagnoses is that she may be ready to move to a regular room in a few days if they can keep her blood sugar under control. My cousin Susan is looking better and we are cracking jokes with her. She said that since the accident broke her nose that she might be able to get a nose job out of it (lol). There were other jokes, but trying to keep it more family friendly. She might be out in a few days, and Grandma might still be a few weeks.

I took a few pics of the car and site of the accident. If you want to look here they are.

My cousin Susan has been only what we can described as panic attacks for the last 2 days. She feels like they are heart attacks, but she checks out fine with all signs as normal (ECG, EKG, and the other tests). So we are now wondering what they are and if they will continue.

Not good at all. I hope everything turns out ok and all your family make a speedy recovery.

Trucks are a menace on the roads, a law to themselves with little regard for others (well in NZ anyways). I have been passed by a speeding truck on the open road and have had to slam the anchors on many a time for a truck that believes turning in to the street I'm on should mean that I should come to a complete stop and let him in simply because he is much larger (failure to give way).

It is tragic when so young people as Stephanie loose their life prematurally. May see rest in peace and may your other three relatives recover soon and completely from their injuries( the ones of the body and the ones of the soul). sorry.gif
