If you manage to install Alcohol in safe mode you'll probably be able to use it normally, at least that's our experience until now.

I have just downloaded Alcohol and am having the same issue. I have tried all recommended steps and it still will not open. Just puts me into a cycle asking me to reboot many times. How can I get the product installed on my Windows 8.1 tablet? Thank you very much in advance for help.

What tablet do you have? Does it have an x86 processor and the normal Windows (not the RT ones)? Have you tried installing in safe mode?

At this point I am disappointed and will stop trying to install Alcohol. I tried installing it using safe mode and it felt like I almost bricked the tablet. Instead of trying to install Alcohol I wasted time trying to get my tablet out of Safe mode. The tablet becomes unresponsive when going in to Safe mode so I wouldn't try it using this particular tablet. I ended up doing a factory reset of my tablet which I now have to reinstall everything. I did try installing Alcohol after the factory reinstall, with the same result. It would constantly ask for a reboot. Good luck to any one else who tries.

My laptop works normally in safe mode, your tablet should do the same. Sorry if I caused you trouble. :( Maybe your tablet has its hardware/software specialties that don't allow the installation of Alcohol. Don't know anything else to say.

After more thought it is possible that the touch screen drivers are not loaded in safe mode. That would surely make a tablet unresponsive, maybe safe mode isn't a good idea for tablets after all.

For the moment the answer is no to both of your questions. It seems that SPTD can't be installed on Dell Venue tablets and you can't install Alcohol without SPTD, which is needed for the virtual disc drives. It could however be an option for future releases of Alcohol (also Duplex Secure can release a new version of SPTD compatible with your tablet, keep an eye on http://www.duplexsecure.com).

:(Hi, i got a reboot loop after installing the last mayor update from Windows 8.1 to let me call it 8.1.Upgrade 1 on my Intel Core i3 laptop.

I refreshed my computer and reinstalled all programms to fix this problem. Then finaly i reinstalled alcohol 120% and agian faced the rebootloop.   In this way i found out that Alcohol 120% causes the rebootloop :(

So to all who install the last version of windows 8.1 Upgrade 1 do not install the present verion of Alcohol 120% but wait for a fixed verion.

I do not know yet if de-install alcohol 120% before upgrading is good enough to prevent problems.

Thanks for the information Mondiger. As you say you get the reboot loop after installing Alcohol. Does the installation finish or you get the boot loop during it and when exactly (e.g. after installing SPTD or at the end of the Alcohol's installation)?

When installing Alcohol 120% the installer askes to reboot first. The rebootloop starts after the first restart, so BEFORE alcohol 120% is actualy installed.

Then the problem has to do with the SPTD installation. What does this error message that you are getting say exactly?

I desperately need some help.  I recently bought Alcohol 120% for my two HP computers; one desktop and one laptop, both high end computers, each about 1 year old.  The Alcohol software installed and works fine on the desktop, but has been a nightmare, trying to get it working on the laptop....  After MUCH trial and research, it appears to be a problem between the SPTD driver and HP LAPTOP COMPUTERS.  They are both Win 8.1 computers.

I sent an email to Duplex Secure to see if they have anything in the works, but was wondering if Alcohol Soft is on top of this situation also; I know I'm not the only person with this problem.  I really need Alcohol to work on my laptop computer (the reason I bought two installs of Alcohol).  The following is what I sent to Duplex Secure : "Hello, I have two computers, one a HP desktop and one HP laptop, both about a year old, both high end.  I recently updated both to Win 8.1 (from Win 8).  I just recently bought two installs of Alcohol 120% to work with Win 8.1 and had no problems with desktop computer, BUT nightmare with laptop computer.  That computer gives me blue screen errors and Windows won't run AFTER the SPTD installation, just after the SPTD installs and requires restart - Blue Screen Error...  I have messed with it for days and know that the problem lies with the SPTD on that particular HP laptop computer.  I really need to use Alcohol software on that laptop computer.  Do you have anything in the works to take care of this problem, as I see many others (with HP laptops) are experiencing the same problem...  Thank you..."

Thanks for any info you may provide...

SPTD is a product of Duplex Secure so you must wait for their response. You can also post in their forums if you want.

Gee, thanks for NOT making even the slightest, feeble attempt with assisting an Alcohol Soft customer with a problem.  Since I bought the (two licenses) of Alcohol 120%, and it only works on ONE of the TWO computers that I purchased it for, I just ASSUMED that Alcohol Soft would be SLIGHTLY interested in the fact that there ARE Alcohol Soft customers who are having major problems with using your software.  I understand that the part I am having trouble with is the SPTD portion of the Alcohol installation, AND that SPTD IS a product of Duplex Secure, but since Alcohol Soft made the decision to incorporate another companies software into their product, I THOUGHT that Alcohol Soft MIGHT like to know what's going on in the world of Alcohol user's problems...  I don't think that Alcohol Soft's customer service standards are up to par with other software vendors, and if given the opportunity, would I recommend Alcohol products to friends and colleagues?  Not anymore...  Also, thanks for giving me permission to post on Duplex Secure's forums...

Of course we are interested in your problem, if you had a problem in installing SPTD we could assist you but since it causes you BSODs then the only solution is a new version of the file, that is something that only Duplex Secure can do. As for posting in their forums I just informed you that they exist and you can post about your problem there, which I think isn't a bad idea at all. Hopefully the people of Duplex Secure will be able to assist you with a new SPTD version that will solve the problem. We wish we could do something more to help you but we can't. :(

pawdad1951@yahoo.com, I have the same exact problem that you are experiencing. I have an HP laptop that I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1. Alcohol120% worked fine in Windows 8.0 but trying to install it in Windows 8.1 gives me the blue screen of death. I finally traced the problem to the SPTD virtual driver. I've tried everything I can think of including wiping all traces of SPTD and Alcohol120% from the registry but to no avail. Every time I try to reinstall SPTD either using either the stand-alone installer (v1.85.0.0) or with the latest version of Alcohol120% (v2.0.2.5830) it causes my laptop to crash at startup. I've exhausted any ideas that I have to resolve the problem. I think that the only thing left to do at this point is wait to see if a newer version of SPTD is released that solves the problem. Kind of a bummer since I have lots of disc images that I would like to access but can't until I get this resolved.
