Unprotected Disc unable to accurately rip BIN/CUE

I am currently evaluating software for purchase, and I have a problem with a particular disc.  My game CD for  MechWarrior2: Mercenaries  will not properly rip to BIN/CUE format  under Alcohol (52 or 120).  Its an old  DOS/WIN version which contains CD audio, etc.  The problem is that the  timings for the audio tracks in the created CUE file are wrong.   So,  the first audio track will play and then  at the very end of the first audio track, the beginning of the second audio track will start,  and after a few seconds it will THEN switch to the next audio track,  resulting in the beginning of the song being cut off if you were just skipping tracks like normal with a CD player.

 

When I ripped to MDF/MDS format using  the DPM option,  the rip was successful and the timing issues were not present.

 

I decided to try ripping the disc with  ImgBurn,  and it created a BIN/CUE rip  with no problems at all,  so I am not really sure what it is doing differently that it can properly rip the disc while alcohol fails.  It does not appear to be a matter of ripping speed, as even at 1x  Alcohol fails to make a proper BIN/CUE  of this disc,  while ImgBurn could do it at around 32x.

 

The only thing it really does differently is it seems to analyse the audio tracks before starting ripping.  I'm not sure why Alcohol does not do anything similar in this case.

 

 

Alcohol doesn't read subchannel data when ripping a disc to CUE/BIN format with the Normal or Audio CD datatype. It does read subchannel data with the Audio CD+ datatype, which exist for copy protected Audio CDs, but then it doesn't rip to CUE/BIN format. The subchannel data contain the postgap and pregap information that can make a track begin two seconds sooner or later. This is a known problem of the program, yet the differences in timing are usually unimportant.

Yes, I noticed this issue was brought up a good 10 years ago (I found the thread related to it) and IMHO it does not give me a good impression that something so basic is seemingly not fixed a decade later.

I don't want to be locked into a proprietary format like MDS, nor should I have to use another program to do the job properly, or edit the CUE files myself.

 

I'd be really interested to hear why the developer thinks this is not a priority (10 years!).  I have plenty of discs with audio tracks that will be affected by this issue.

Basically there is a difficulty in discriminating the normal subchannel data from those of the copy protected audio CDs as far as I can tell.
