Firefox: complete deadlock when asking to save the file.

Edge: "Save" sometimes works, "Save as" does not, and breaks something ipc  wise, the browser cannot be closed, tabs cannot be closed, until you terminate and restart the edge parent process.

When cancelling the download to remove it from the list, the same thing happens.

This is because of a flaw in AxShlExHlper

This same flaw results in AXShlEx.dll and AXShlEx64.dll hanging Regsvr32.exe when trying to unregister and register these dll's.

How do you know it? Which is your OS and can you give some specs of your system?

Well, why do you try to unregister and register them? Are you sure that the same thing doesn't happen with other dll's in your system? It can be a case of corrupted OS installation.

The shell handler process spinlocks in the task manager when invoked, this has long been an issue with Total Commander, but now also in web browsers.

Wx applications have also long been affected by this, with software like PCSX2 unable to browse to a folder with alcohol handled disk images inside without freezing on the x64 version.

The issue can be invoked on any Windows 10 build beyond 1709, its just getting worse as software enhance memory "security" which seems to generate exceptions when passed through the handler process, it was last updated in 2015, so nothing to coooperate with Windows 10 changes since 2017 have been introduced in recent Alcohol updates.

I'm aware you're on Windows 8 still, which is not affected,  and on windows 7 the same is experienced, its only 10 that really breaks in this way.

Combination testing, other files are fine, even some others that utilise a handler process in a similar way.

The DLL's can be unregistered just fine so long as the handler isn't callable (through rename).

Even Windows Explorer itself isn't stable with the handler these days, with it occasionally deadlocking the folder process.

These issues aren't new, they have occured and been fixed over the years

Well, only the Alcohol Development Team can do something for this with a new version of Alcohol.

Other bugs were fixed in this version, maybe they will fix these in a later version.
