Ok my good ol' GeForce FX 5200 has had plenty of good days but I recently purchased HALO and am struggling to keep a decent framerate at a 640x480 resolution with all the eye candy turned off. I have been an NVidia person all my life (and yes I know the new 6800 is the best now) but I have done research, read editorials, reviews, etc. and came upon the notion that the 9600 XT is the best card I can buy now for under 200. Being a just recent member, i notice that the good people that read these forums have the answers to everything... so should I buy the 9600 XT with the free Half Life 2? or is there a better card for under 200? Thanx alot.

I've got a 9600Pro and I am very pleased with it. Get constant high frame rates in BF:V and Call of Duty. A 9600XT is a very good choice but if you are willing to spend some more bucks, go for an 9800 series card.

for the money, 9600XT is probably the best graphics card out, 9800XT is better, but it costs like 3 times as much blink.gif . if i was to buy a new computer, i would buy a 9600XT for it, thats because i never buy the best and most recent hardware at the time, i always buy like the 2nd best or wotever because it is MUCH cheaper and worth the money you pay a lot more. also remember, you might not want to spend a lot on a graphics card (like a 9800XT) because the next generation of cards are coming VERY soon (although it will be a while before the price is low). that is why i recomment the 9600XT.

Yea, I just bought it today, installed it, and LOVE it. Halo runs flawlessly at a higher resolution with all the eye candy turned ON. Still testing it before i scratch my half-life 2 ticket, but so far I'm lovin it!

P.S. I'm glad that valve offers the freebie premier pack with steam cuz some *!@# stole my CD-Key and registered it to their name.

Piracy sucks... some little *#@! stole the coupon # for my HL2 which surprised me cuz i just bought the card and scratched the coupon in the privacy of my own room (no 1 saw the key)... how is that possible? I emailed steam and I think they want me to mail the coupon in along with my cd keys from my old HL platinum pack (which were also in use, if i find the guy that did that 2 me :nuke: ) 9600 XT great card though

It's an awsome card. I bought it about 5 months ago, right after I bought Halo, and it made the game beautiful. You will enjoy this card with all the other games you buy.

Yea I got the 9600 XT on Sunday... great card, before Halo was very choppy at a 640x480 resolution with details turned off on my NVidia GeForce 5200 128Mb... with
9600 XT, runs perfectly at 800x600 resolution with everything turned on. I'm not a details man, I know that there is 1024, and 1600 resolutions... but I just enjoy playing a game that runs smooth and plays solid, instead of graphics.

On the downside of buying the video card... some stupid idiot already registered my Half-Life 2 key that was on my ticket that came with the card... thats the only downside to activation software... this already happened to me with my Half Life Platinum Pack that I tried running on Steam... and also I was locked out of my DVDXCopy Platinum because of a similar event (though I did manage to talk to 321 customer support and get it working)... I emailed Steam 3 times already with no reply!!!
