I am thinking of having my PS2 chipped but have heard that this can affect the tghe life of the unit. Is this true?

Also, is it possible that some PS games can detect the chip so the copy will not work properly(similar to fade protection) or will the copy play just like the original except of course it will only work on chipped ps2?

I have mine chipped with a MagicV and it works great. I have heard that some games do in fact detect chips and prevent them from playing. I have not come across any of these yet.... As for shortening the life of the machine, I have not heard this....... So far mine works fine.......

Some chips go into "sleep" mode after the game has loaded so games can't detect their presence...At least that is the idea. As far as shortening the life of the PS2 itself, I think the concern is that certain chips don't have a sleep or stealth mode and they remain "on" all the time and send excess power to the laser which in turn couldshorten the laser life...At least that is the theory. I have the Matrix Infinity which has sleep and stealth modes so I guess I won't have to worry about that. Take a look at chips like the Infinity and the DMS3 if theyh are in your price range.
