I am completely new the the Xbox scene and want to back up halo 2 in the event I scratch it. Unforunently, I dont know how to do this and any guides I look at say I need a "Modchip". Should I be able to read the dvd, make an image and then put the image onto another dvd?

Thanks in advance and remember ill be taking baby steps wink.gif

From what I heard, you will need some way to connect the Xbox to your computer as standard computer DVD drives cannot read Xbox discs.

Also I think youll need a mod chip no matter what.

Thanks for clarifying that I need to connect my xbox to my pc, i have seen guides on ways to do that. After I get it connected does it matter which type of image I make? What file extension?

Thanks again smile.gif

I wouldnt think so (This is not my area of expertise) but I would go with the mdf/mds format just to be safe.

Heres what I'm thinking... im not sure if this is how it should work...

Xbox --> Computer, make image using alcohol 120%

Image --> Burnt Backup using 120% (Image should burn fine once its made)

Backup -->Modded Xbox

This is my best guess...

close but not quite, there are no physical backups in the realm of xbox modding.

You can go two (possibly 3) routes here

1. You can set up an FTP and ftp the immage to your unlocked hdd on your xbox(youll need to follow all the steps in the FAQ section on xbox backups first)

2. You can read them into the xbox and save them onto the hard drive (you will still need to follow the FAQ on this site)

3. You can install the hard drive in your pc and i think there are applications that will allow you to transfer it in your pc

Alright, I talked to one of my friend who said that I needed to get a modchip and a cable. He said after I get those two things I was set up forever. Is this true? Is it legal? How much would I be talking for a basic setup?

***Edit***

Afterreading this site's FAQ I realized I need a "dashboard", If anyone could explain what this is I would be greatful smile.gif

yes u deffinately need a modchip
u also need a cd which will give your xbox an ip once u get those
this is what u do to backup xbox games
a. network ur pc to ur xbox or through a router
b. get flash fxp or some other ftp program to log into the xboxes ip wutever that may b for you using xbox/xbox as user/pass
c. once the cd loads and ur xbox has an ip u can take it out put in the game disc than login in to the xbox through the ftp go to the d drive copy all the files there to ur hd than u have to get a program that makes iso images and patches the .xbe files i suggest craxtion (google it) that program will take the files u got and make em back into an iso image that u can than burn to a dvd

Sorry for all the questions but I have another. Would I need a bigger hard drive to backup my games? I was told I did but I dont see why I would.

Well Xbox images are pretty HUGE... so you might need to upgrade depending on how many backups you wish to keep onthe Hard Drive...

Couldn't I just use the Xbox as the reader and store the Image on my computer hard drive?

Hi,

I am new to this too. But can't this backup be done by software like DVDWizard's bonus pack for Games backup? As mentioned above, PCs can't read Xbox disc so how can DVDWizard bonus software burn a backup?

Confused...

those are rip off programs, i think ive ran across it before on the net.....

It said that it could make stand alone backups of anything you threw at it... playstation, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube... the list goes on.

It also had on the site it was endorsed buy companys like PCgamer, TechTV and other organizations that have come right out and said that it wasnt true and they would probably press charges if the ads werent removed.
