I dont know if i'm true but a way which i found which of my drives are the best for each protection was: For securom, i made an image and i wrote the number of error on a paper, after this i went to cd/dvd manager,/ disk and double click on the game. Then i wrote the number of error(of backuping image) at the top and after this refresh.I tried it to each drive.The drive which appeared the page below with the codes was able to backup and to burn a securom protected disk.
A way to find which drive is the best.

And for safedisk the drive which appears quiklier the errors.

I cant make a lick of sense outa what you posted 
But i can tell you this... dont worrie about which drives can do protections "better". Id say if a drive can do it, then thats all that matters... i wouldnt search around for which drive does it the "best"
But along your lines i think whichever drive finds the most errors would produce the "better" backup in both cases (safedisk and securom)
If you could reword your post alittle better i might have an easier time with what i had to say in response...
