Yesterday i change the case of my pc. At the first boot, it re-installs my adsl modem (driver without digital sign.). I don't know why, it was already installed. After, every tim I surf the intenet, after a few minutes appered a BSOD. Someone knows what might be the reason? Bad case installation? Bad modem (it has always worked)?

Did you re-install windows or just put your hardware in the new case ? what are you getting for a fault for the BSOD.

Hi Luciano - any possibility of a screw causing a short on the case?

Try to uninstall the modem completely:
1. Disconnect it.
2. Open the folder /windows/inf and find the files oemxxx.inf (xxx is not a porno site, but a variable). Open them with notepad, to see where they refer to and then delete all referring to modem- plus the corresponding .pnf files.
3. Then clean your registry from all references to the modem. Some of them may be completely locked (that is: even under safe mode), so you may have too leave them, or use something like ERD Commander to modify them.
4. Installing it now MAY be better.
BTW I also have a similar problem under Windows 2000 after I downgradded them from SP2 to SP3. The modem (serial) vanishes and appears every 2-3 reboots... although I dont have BSOD's. IMHO this is a bug in the way XP SP1 and 2000 SP3 treat unsigned drivers, and this causes the trouble.
