I had been wondering for a while why my internet had been so slow. After all it is 1 mb cable connection.
Well it seems as though it can be answered.
from UK TV Teletext;

"A transatlantic computer virus has been blamed for crippling internet traffic across the UK and Europe.
The origin of the virus, which has been causing web problems for businesses, is unknown, although experts have dubbed it W32/SQLSlammer.
The virus, likened to the Code Red bug of 2001, is thought to attack via Microsoft database software SQL Server."

Also found this from reuters;

"Hackers crash South Korea's Internet services
SEOUL (Reuters) - Hackers are believed to have crashed almost the entire Internet services of South Korea, one of the most wired countries in the world, officials say. It was the first time South Korea's broadband and mobile Internet services have been shut down on such a scale, although hackers are fairly active in South Korea where 70 percent of households have Internet access. "Hackers attacked KT's DNS (Domain Name System), breaking down its entire Internet service," said a spokesman for KT Corp, the country's biggest Internet company. He said services were down for several hours in the afternoon on Saturday but were now recovering. However, the networks of number two operator Hanaro Telecom and number three Thrunet were still experiencing trouble. The problem had not been limited to South Korea, he said, and the hackers had attacked servers in the United States. Yonhap news agency said police were investigating the source of the attack."
