I dont mind waiting for all the bugs to be ironed out of the forthcoming ICE Alcohol software so we can have a decent program. :in:

However in the meantime i would love to know what other users use to create VCD's(simplest formats preferable as too many options freak me out) :upside:

I have downloaded quite a few Mpeg and Avi films that at the moment can only be viewed on my pc but i hate having to watch them this way as its so uncomfortable and eye aching sad.gif

I want to be able to burn them to cd-r so i can watch them on my DVD player, i'm not to bothered about copying DVD's yet.

Many Thanks :praise:

TMPGEnc to create Mpeg1 or Mpeg2, and burn them with Nero or WinOnCD.

VCDEasy is by far the best VideoCD program one can find- freeware too. I wouldn't bother using Nero or WinOnCD, as their encoder sucks bigtime- especially Nero's.
As for the encoding phase, if you think you can part with $ 700 then Canopus Procoder is unbeatable... but both CCE and Tmpgenc are acceptable.
be a bit careful if you choose TMPgenc, as it tends to produce nonstandard video streams (bad presets?).

Depends on needs, iluro...
Divx or Xvid are best by far, but wont play on standalones.
SVCD is much better than VCD, but taking almost double disk space.
Movie DVD's should be ripped AND decrypted/ decss' ed, something which can be done by special program(s).
I think that HERE you will find everything, and much better explained than I possibly can.

SVCD is better quality, but of course the file size is larger. Also there are less stand-alone units that will play SVCD as compare to vcd.

Hi,

try using DVD2SVCD together withz the cinema craft encoder 2.50 SP. It's very easy to handle and produces the best results if you use the SVCD (mpeg2) format. The result is fantastic.

Hi, I have some movies on my harddisk (.avi extension) and I want to convert them to VCD.
I first tried converting & burning them with Nero; I waited 3 hours and 14% was done.
So, which programs are recommended without waiting whole day to finish..?

I like EazyVCD, it's a programs that you set and forget basically. It rips the DVD, normalizes the audio, encodes the VCD/SVCD and creates a bin/cue file. Sweet! smile.gif

Glad I could be of some help. I've used EazyVCD for some time now and like it for the simple fact that you set it and forget it. It dumps a couple of bin/cue files that you can burn with Alcohol. Bada Bing! :magic:
