However in the meantime i would love to know what other users use to create VCD's(simplest formats preferable as too many options freak me out) :upside:
I have downloaded quite a few Mpeg and Avi films that at the moment can only be viewed on my pc but i hate having to watch them this way as its so uncomfortable and eye aching
I want to be able to burn them to cd-r so i can watch them on my DVD player, i'm not to bothered about copying DVD's yet.
Many Thanks :praise:

As for the encoding phase, if you think you can part with $ 700 then Canopus Procoder is unbeatable... but both CCE and Tmpgenc are acceptable.
be a bit careful if you choose TMPgenc, as it tends to produce nonstandard video streams (bad presets?).

Ok, you have said us to choice but... what's better, VCD or SVCD? and Why it's better?
Maybe for you there are a stupid questions... but i don't know about.

Divx or Xvid are best by far, but wont play on standalones.
SVCD is much better than VCD, but taking almost double disk space.
Movie DVD's should be ripped AND decrypted/ decss' ed, something which can be done by special program(s).
I think that HERE you will find everything, and much better explained than I possibly can.

SVCD is better quality, but of course the file size is larger. Also there are less stand-alone units that will play SVCD as compare to vcd.

try using DVD2SVCD together withz the cinema craft encoder 2.50 SP. It's very easy to handle and produces the best results if you use the SVCD (mpeg2) format. The result is fantastic.

I first tried converting & burning them with Nero; I waited 3 hours and 14% was done.
So, which programs are recommended without waiting whole day to finish..?
