Picked up 2 new (for me, anyway) single malts - a 10-year old single Islay malt by Ardbeg and a Glenmorangie Madeira Wood Finish.

It's a balmy 2C here (for you metrically-challenged folks that's about 34F) and I'm sipping the Ardbeg (fabulous, wish I could afford the expensive one) and grilling - I'm in hog heaven!! biggrin.gif

on the subject of whisky.... I just bought my friend a nice bottle of Johnny Walker Blue label to suck on as a combined xmas/birthday and housewarming gift. Think I'll have to help him sample it biggrin.gif !!! Well I'm off to see the wizard....

no kidding! he could buy me a bottle of blue also. smile.gif

those temps are just too much for me, pappy. it got down into the upper 40s for a low this morning and i'm freezing. at least it will hit the upper 70s this afternoon. in that kind of weather i'd be sippin' a lot and standing real close to the grill.

enjoy!

btw, i've tried that 10 year old ardberg before too. not bad at all.

Only -1? biggrin.gif Went over to my brother's house this morning to return some tools and it was -8 but has warmed up a bit now. It was 20 on Wednesday and 17 on Thursday so right now it's a bit cool. That time of year for us - scotch consumption goes way up. Heading out now to a buddy's place for dinner, scotch and beer. Don't care how cold it gets. tongue.gif

Well my brother just gave me a bottle of Aberlour single malt. Only the 10yo but who's complaining. Goes down just fine even in the 34 degrees c (about 94 f) that it is round here at the moment.

Glad to see several scotch 'appreciaters' in here and there's absolutely nothing wrong with Glenfiddich....had some last night, Aberlour is very good. Don't think we had 34C last summer so don't know how it tastes at that temperature, it's -15 here this morning. ohmy.gif

Hmm, Black Velvet.....reminds of a song by Alannah Myles biggrin.gif

Better Canadian blends, IMHO, are Alberta Springs and Crown Royal and many are partial to Gibson's. Treat yourself to a single malt scotch such as Talisker or any of the others mentioned, unfortunately they are getting quite expensive. wink.gif

Mmmm, good Danish beer AND scotch! Had some Belgian beer made with cherries a short while ago. Very different but good. Here we have more and more micro-breweries opening up and for a while we have had the Big Rock Brewery (a German Brew Master) which is excellent. Imported beers reasonably plentiful, but more the 'usual' brands - Tuborg, Heineken a variety of British and Irish and of course American.

Man this is maklin' me thirsty and it's only 0925 here! tongue.gif

sorry guys, but i no longer drink blended whiskey of any kind. if i can't afford single malt scotch then i drink good old straight kentucky bourbon. it's good stuff and of course a lot cheaper here than scotch since we're practically next door.

i gotta tell you though, of all the single malt i've tried i really like the cheapest one. speyburn is 86 proof and i can get it for the same price here as a premium bourbon. it has a fantastic rich, smoky flavor and even on the rocks maintains its character. i have gotten to prefer it over glenfiddich even.
