Looking to get a router nothing fancy needed just for basic use to split 2-3 computers between with possibility to add wireless card later on. I am taking suggestions trying to keep it within $100 range.

There are many that should do the trick, and you should have no problem keeping it below $100..... I would look at the D-Link units, or the Microsoft units.

Linksys is another good choice, even more so since they're owned by Cisco now smile.gif

and you can ###### the wireless linksys routers because they have linux embedded in the unit. You can boost signal strenght over 5 times its original power making every computer get superb reception... and this doesnt require a deep knowledge of hackin and the such... you just run one app and bam its nearly done.

Do you want a router with integrated ADSL modem, 4 port switch and wireless access point? If yes you look at USR9106 (if you don't need wireless you can also look at USR9105), I have one and I'm very happy with it. If you want to see more oppinions goto google and search for emule forum 9106 you will find a very interesting thread on emule forum about these two routers.
I can also say you that by my personal experience USR support is not very good... but the router is, and you probably will not need support smile.gif

The main question is.. How fast is your Internet Connection, and what else besides sharing your connection do you want ?
Here in sweden, 10 and 100Mbit connections are very common, and you can't find any "Router" (Correct name would be NAT/PAT Server) for $100 wich is capable of transfering 100Mbit from WAN to LAN..

Got a DLink DSL500 here, goes pretty good. Dropped carrier once or twice a 600K + p/s but had only just got DSL so i'm attributing that to teething difficulties and the fact that telecom forgot to cap it at 256K so for one night only I had fullspeed smile.gif

Speedwise we're a little behind you guys.

Cost $160 NZ so that'll be around $80 US. Single port though, but that didn't matter seeming I'm connecting it to a 1G switch.

It doesnt matter what connection his provider is if he gets a B or G standard they are faster than any residental level service that is out right now. If you want to run remote Apps over a wireless lan then go for the G standard. if they have 108Mbps on the box know its most likly a propritary (sp) standard to get that. If youre going wired then get a standard router. I'm about ot swap and go gigabit in my home and yes all my cards are gigabit.

I am aware of that ;-)
The issue is the throughput from WAN to LAN in the router. Yes, it always states that it is a 100Mbit Full Duplex connector, but you cant shift data at a speed of 100Mbit from WAN to LAN.. Usually no more than up to 10 or 20Mbit real throughput in those devices..

It's like you have a 230V power-connector, but the wires can only handle 12V

Ok I went out to Fry's last night (Yes the majority of you have not heard of the store's name) And got a Linksys 54Mbps Wireless-G Access Point Router. Was $59.99. I just wanted something that I can add wireless to later. Right now I dont have the need for wireless unless I can figure how to get my old 486 out of the closet and running. It's an AT full tower from Gateway about 15-20 years ago complete with a 1.2Gig HDD, memory, and power supply.
