there is no "best", different burners are better at different things, there is an ongoing sticky convo in the off topic

Cant you tell why? Do a search on any forum, and you'll have years worth of threads to sort through. Theres no such thing as 'recent updates'. Every week new models of writers come out, most not tested until another lot of new models come out, you cant keep up. And as RAS said there is no #1. One drive thats great for mr smith might cause you no end of grief. Its trial and error. Go to: videohelp.com. There you can search for a writer with the capabilitys you want.

Your not going to get one answer you going to get many. Personal preference and what your going to use it for all come in to consideration. Some drives are better at backing up one particular protection than others etc.

I'm just going to start this little snowball.......

Lite-on is the greatest and bestest drive ever made look at my sig for model #'s to choose from. The 8 series is dual layered and top of the line for most games.

You ask and I answered, not just make sure you subscribe to the post for all other responses.

Also it might not be a good thing to piss off support or admin or others tring to help.

six to one and half a dozen to another....

Depends on what YOU want, I personally like the best bang for the buck ( performance/cost ratio) Im not paying a bazillion dollars more because theres a better one out unless its competitvely priced and is significantly better then what i run. Im also not goana buy a drive thats 5 bucks but only works half the time or writes at like 2x.

Some out there also look at the capabilites of the drive, i also consider this when choseing a drive. Some drives are better for some protections (Plex premium comes to mind as it pwns Securom)

pick your poison.

I'll peg that then. In my opinion, forget 1:1, forget sheep, forget twin whatever method. New protections and ones to come are only gonna work via emulation. With that in mind I say NEC 3500. Its 1 sheep, but reliable, hackable, fast, silent, and compatible with tons of media brands. Check out its reviews at videohelp. The first drive I'm yet to hear a bad thing about.

Thanks for the answers , I didn't think it would be that hard , it would be different if people were giving them without asked but I really want some personal opinions. Also not trying to piss off anyone , I didn't see the need for being stepped on in only my second or third post. wink.gif

This is probably one of the most commonly asked questions, hence there is a post at the top of the off topic forum. We always prefer people to do a little research rather than starting new threads on the same topic as it gives one point of reference for the information rather than many.

Tron was merely suggesting to have a read of the forum as you'd get quite a lot of information there.
