the reason I post this comes becuase I it took me over 4 weeks to pay RETAIL for my X800XT not XT-pe but XT card, I cant belive that we have to search for a company just to pay retail for high end videocards. Moving on I am now lookign around to upgrade again. I thought the X800XT would last me until next year but oo how I under estamate myself with the need to buy new crap. I am moving to PCI-e and I am trying my best to hold off to buy the newer R520 card. Its sad that just over a year and a half you could go to any website and grab a 9800pro or 9800xt for under MSRP. Now you have a hard time finding a retail card for MSRP. I think that retailers are just getting greedy. I know supplies are limited and the normal bla bla bla. But really at this point in the game you have a new product line coming out and yourll STILL keeping prices at 550-600 dollars for a retail card its a bit out of control

FYI
Ill be selling my 3 month old X800xt card for $350 shortly.

Im not sure but an X800 XT should be MORE then proficent for a good little while. Make sure the rest of your system is up to par with that card first. I suggest either a P4 3.4 GHZ or higher, 2 GB of ram ( PC 5400 ) and switch to two HDDs configured in RAID 0. The ideal processor for the X800 imo would be the Athlon FX- 55 if you could afford it and if your mobo can is socket 939... if its not then i suggest you upgrade to a mobo that is so you can take advantage of the 2000 mgz bus speed. Keep in mind that these upgrades will run you well over 1000 dollars but just upgradeing your card will only improve so much... of course i dont know your full comp specs so this could all just be pointless

Yeah I have a MSI K8N Plat on an OCed 3500+ I just like to upgrade. as for an FX chip I could justify the cost.

The cost of high-end video cards is high, true. But I don't think they're out of control. Does anyone remember the GeForce 3's? The top of the line model cost $700, and that was 5 years ago (or was it 4 years). A top of the line model can be had for around $500 now. So, I'd say - while they are still high - they aren't necessarily over the top.

lol over the top. I think $450 is a goos spot to the top model and work your way down. Now keep in mind this isnt ATI or Nvidia setting the prices this are retailers. if MSRP was set that high its one thing.

Supply and demand rules the prices! The more folks that are clamoring for leading edge ( I refuse to say bleading damnit! wink.gif ) like you Big Ty, the more prices will rise! So don't already!! tongue.gif JK.

Don't mind me, I'm just jealous of you. I guess I will just have to "make do" with my X800 Pro.... blush.gif But so far I'm able to run everything full tilt and thats only with an Athlon 64 FX 3500 with 1 GB ram.

Is that X800 an agp 8x that you need to plug in to the PSU through the molex connectors... or is it PCI-E,

The PCI-E cards are really nice but you dont need a billion dollar one.. a 3-4 hundred dollar one would do.

You serious? My 6600GT is only 128MB and it plays EQ2 great at Very High settings. I know EQ2 was based around nVidia, but still...

Try living in NZ. The cards that are top line here are nearly outta date the moment we buy them and still cost us an arm and a leg. I've had two GFX cards recently so I'm typing this with my nose.

There are two ways to look at it.

First, compare current high end cards with low end and middle end ones: then yes, the prices are incredibly high.

Second, compre current high end cards with past high end cards: then no, and we should take inflation and technology into account.

I should choose the latter one.

I dont know their TY, That card should be more then good for EQ2.... Thats a very good card.

http://www20.graphic...1004/index.html

Those benchmarks dont lie... the only time the cards really get bogged down is whenever they tried DOOM 3 at 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 8xAF... which is EXTREME quality anywho.

But hey I mean you could play it at 1024x768 and 4xAA/8xAF and still get over 40 FPS. Thats still nice quality and a decent frame rate. I would pay the extra 250$+ just so it could be done at 1600x1200 4xAA/8xAF at 40fps.

dont stress 2k5 I have the EQ2 problem well in hand. I just stoped playing and it works JUST fine wink.gif. EQ took to much time to play and it was going down A road I didnt want to go. Some bugs that have been in the game sence day one wasnt fixed for me and other issues just caused me to toss in the towel. C & C G works like a champ so until Xbox 360 and Age of Emp 3 comes out Ill be cool. O yeah my HL2 worked no problem with other demos I tried all ran great. So that tells me one thing it was an EQ2 problem.

Not stressin there TY, and if you think EQ takes a long time.... WoW becomes your life man. You could dump 4 hours each and every day into WoW and it would be normal.... but those days will be comming to an end soon for me becuase in a month or so im going to be working 40 hours a week.
