Hey,

I think function that would allow you to edit your CD/DVD images (for example, like in MagicISO Maker) is very usefull for a lot of users. If I have an image of a program "A" on my HDD and the developer of the program releases an update, I would be able to add it to the image with such a function, burn it to CD/DVD and wouldn't have to worry about redownloading it the next time I reinstall the program.

Thanks for reading. smile.gif

I think what you want is called 'slipstreaming' - very few programs have this ability (to integrate updates into the primary installer). It can be done with the Windows XP install discs, though. Perhaps you're better off just including the latest patch with the installer?

Alcohol's purpose at the moment is to backup a CD/DVD by creating an image. Altering the image content of copyrighted material can raise legal issues.

I don't think that's what he's referring to Tzarius, I believe he is wanting (as am I) the ability to add files to (or otherwise modify) an already created image file.

Using the previous example:

Say you download (or create) an iso file for program "A", and want to add a folder on the image called updates with the update file inside it at a later time

Something similar to Nero's Multi-Session Disk option and their ability to create/burn images from a group of files would be quite nice also (then Alcohol would do EVERYTHING)

Once again, this may raise legal issues. Images of copyrighted material are suppose to stay unmodified.

Even if you could modify the contents, it wouldn't do you any good. Once you modify the disc then it no longer functions as a backup. The game will not recognize it as an original anymore. Seeing as Alcohol's purpose is to create working images and backups of discs that can be used in place of the original, this would defeat the purpose.
