Just announced, Diablo III is in production. Due to the absencse of most of the brains behind the Diablo story lines, Blizzard is teaming up with id Software. Diablo will now be based in future times still carring over the charachters from Diablo II expansion LOD, and adding a new class, the Marine. He will be outfitted with a knife to start and has upgrades in 3 catagories for Hand-to-Hand Combat, Specialist (grenadier, sniper, and spec opps), and Weaponry. The plot released so far is that in an alternate universe a Soul stone has been found by planitary explorers. By their testing they have released Diablo into a new world and he has found Soul Stones to release his brothers. In bringing Diablo to the new universe the Beams that hold the Dark Tower that controls the different universes has become unstable and you find yourself in a new world ready to kick his @ss once again. You must fight the evil hordes who work to destroy the beams, and save the tower. If the Tower falls, all of creation will be in darkness.

Edit: Ugh looks like I lost my $20, I just did a Google on it.... A marine though??? FEH.

No mention on Blizzard's site and diabloii.net indicate Blizzard isn't working on D3 yet. Is it April 1st over there?

Well, this is interesting...a mostly-blank page on Gamespy.com for Diablo III. Do a Google search for Diablo III and it's the topmost link.

We will have to wait to see this...... I assume it might come to pass since there are many people who would buy it. There is money to be made. If they develop this game i wonder how close it will follow the the others. Most of the people involved in that project are gone to other companies. I read someplace that many of them worked on Guild Wars......

Blizzard has WoW, which is a gold mine finacially right now... no need to throw together another game just yet.

I made it all up actually. Sounded pretty good though. Mixing Doom and Diablo together with a little Stephen King actually made up a nice story line for a game...

Well there are pages with release dates, although its not even been announced yet.
