My trial period recently expired and since I dont have the money to buy the software, I uninstalled the program. Since I downloaded the program, every time i try to play a game, it prompts me to insert the correct CD-ROM. I know good and well that I am using the correct CD-ROM for that game. I'm not entirely certain whether or not I still have any virtual CD drives on my computer. I had a drive (labeled F:) that was said to be connected through USB, there is nothing connected to my USB except a joystick. I would really like to get back to gaming soon. Please help me please.gif

To manually uninstall Alcohol:

1. Go to Start -> Run and type regedit
1a. Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{E9F81423-211E-46B6-9AE0-38568BC5CF6F} and delete it.

2. Now go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager
2a. Under SCSI and RAID controllers delete the key for vaxscsi

3. Back in the registry find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services and delete the key for vaxscsi and remove the corresponding file from Windows\system32\drivers

i was unable to do any of the things you suggested, i have already uninstalled alcohol, and none of the things you said were available. My computer still tells me to insert the correct disc.

Have your drive letters changed around per chance?

Same problem here, and it means I can't install anything requiring the insertion of a second CD...
I made all the things listed above except the manipulation in the Control Panel, since there doesn't seem to be the specified controllers

Fine, I am slowly losing patience altogether...
What is the portion of the program that prevents the CDs from being recognized by the readers? And most importantly, how do you neutralize that portion of program?

My drives have not changed, their letter is still the same, but they simply won't identify inserted CDs or DVDs, meaning that all the programs necessitating protected CDs are now unusable.

I hope there is a work around.

There is nothing in Alcohol that prevents Windows from recognizing the contents of a disc. Sounds like AIN is messed up. If you want further help, provide a SysRep.

While looking into the Alcohol software, I found the solution. It is indeed a problem with Automatic Insertion Notification. The fact it was deactivated after Alcohol installation could be nothing more than coincidence, but such complaints have happened before, so it would seem some systems interfere with Alcohol.

Just some fuel for your thoughts. The problem was solved using CloneCD and enabling AIN in the Tools menu.
