Ok I remember something about haveing a dual core chip needing or possibly needing some update from microsoft to have the OS recognize and use both chips as needed. Am I dreaming this or is there something out there I need to read up on?

Also if any one out there has knowledge about this.....

My Win XP disc is SP1 and on microsoft they state they will no longer be updating sp1 sometime in October. I want to know if I can get an updated XP cd with sp2 on it without having to buy a whole new OS for it. Can I either get a new license and give them the old or return my disc for a new one at a minimal charge like shippping cost only?

Can't you just use windows update to update it?, or you can get them to send you an update cd from their website

I think the microsoft thing that was needed is included in sp2 but there is the AMD dual core optimizer along with the latest AMD driver that is on the same place

You can also download the Service Pack 2 from the Microsoft's site, if you have ADSL it won't take to long. The recovery disk of my laptop has SP 2 on it but for my desktop I found it downloaded in the internet cafe( I hadn't bought my laptop yet at this time).

Yeah I already have SP2, I was looking for a new disc so when I reformat my hard drive, it would be more up to date.

Do what I do. Slipstream the Service Pack into your Windows CD.

An alternative choice for extracting the contents of the Service Pack update is to use WinRAR instead of the command line switches.

Does anybody know whether SP3 will come? If it will, when will it be?

I doubt it, you'll probably see XP discontinued in favour for Vista when it finally gets released.

A good little program to help with slipstreaming Service Packs is Nlite

even SCSI/SATA RAID drivers

That will make your Windows XP SP1 intergrated to Windows XP SP2.

Just Burn the ISO in Alcohol 120%.

even works on x64 Windows.

There's supposed to be one more SP for Windows XP, but it won't see the light of day until Vista is out. They're currently working on SP2 for x64, but no idea when that will be relesaed (though it is currently in beta testing).

Go into your task manager via ALT-CTRL-DEL

If there are two bars in your cpu usage chart then you have it like it needs to be.
