This generally is a problem with the source disc, it is either scratched or dirty, try cleaning your source disc and try again. If this doesnt help could you try reducing your reading speed.

No this is most odd..

I have scanned the disk with various protection scanners and none can find any protection (this is a two disk program an it does find secrom 7 on disk 1)

I can make a backup of disk one and use the backup to install the program and then work with the original disk; however I cannot for the life of me make a backup of the data disk (disk2)

I assume this is an rmps issue (yes I have it ticked with all the extra emulation) what settings are worth playing with

Unfortunately, thats the error that is reported, however,

Try scanning the installation directory for the copy protection. Securom and various others are installed with the game.

Have you tried using the Pioneer drive?

What speed are you obtaining the DPM at?

Is DMA enabled for your drives?

Have you tried changing the default control interface in Alcohol's options to the Windows one?

Disk 2 has no install directory only "data" disk one copies ok, I tried to read the DPM a 1X and yes DMA is enabled on the drives I will try changing the control interface and see if it makes any difference.

Thanks..

If the disk 2 isn't copy protected there is no need for using DPM (and RMPS), it might in fact cause problems. Also you can try to use the "skip read errors" option in order to finalize the disk dumping- of course you should try cleaning your disk first and reducing the reading speed as zamiel said.

Could disk 2 have some sort of protection even though the scanner says no? disk 1 (the install disk) defiantly has secrom 7, protection id 6 shows “Securom 7.31.0011” and “Crypkey SDK v6.0-6.4” and also “possible CD/DVD Check String -> CD Path”
would the data disk (disk2) show signs of securom as there are no install files on it ? could it still br using Securom as a result of disk 1…

Thanks

Scan the disk and the files that are installed from it, if you find nothing then it mustn't be copy protected( that's the most possible since for more games only one disk is copy protected). This disk may just be faulty, can you install from it or use it properly (if it contains program and not installation data)?

Both the install disk and the install directory show signs of Securom and Cryptkey

Update...

The plot thickens!

A mate has made me a copy that will run in alcohol with RMPS ticked and not run unticked .. It has a bad sector in the same peace as the original

He will not tell me how he did it!! ######!

How can I make a genuine bad sector on the image ?/

This bad sector is typical for Securom. It seams that disc 2 is also protected with Securom. To make an image of it just use the Securom NEW (4/5/7) datatype with the slowest possible speed when obtaining the DPM- start with 1x and if it fails speed up to 2x e.t.c.( we are talking about a CD, aren't we?). if you use the above datatype you'll see that the "Skip read errors" option is already enabled, Alcohol will just put a bad sector in the same position with the original and continue ripping the disc.

I don't understand what you mean with "not run unticked" but you friend obviously made an image with DPM using the above profile and burned it with the same profile wich requires the burning of the RMPS(DPM) data to the disc. This is the only way to make a working disk copy of a Securom copy protected disk, and the RMPS emulation does have to be enabled in order to play with this disc( these emulations ar in general fror playing wih a disk, they are not necessary for images since in their case the needed emulation is applied automatically).
