Hi,

Just installed the trial version.

I'm desperetely trying to understand why I do only get the DAO option when writing, as I'd really rolleyes.gif need to be able to use RAW writing.

I tried on several PCs, from WIN ME (with the correct Alcohol version) to Vista (latest version), and several burners, all regsistered as compliant, nothing works.

SoI begin to suspect that the trial version does only DAO, but this is not why I thhink I've red unsure.gif

So, could you give me some hints? please.gif

Below you'll find the environment data for the WIN ME + NEC 3500A system.

Thx and brgds,

Thierry

Bonjour Thierry,

Hi Ptolomeus,

thanks for the answer.

It's simply a DVD-ROM containing the Alpine navigation system of my car... It's still working, but there are no more updates since 2003 as these %&#!!§ simply changed the system and stopped maintaining the old one :-(

so I'm afraid that if this only original fails, the system will become totally useless (it's already becoming old, but can still be used...in some areas...)

So I need a back-up.

But this Alpine system is famous for being very solidly copy-protected...

I did the Image with the automatic options... anyhow, even if I try to write a non-protected ISO image I get the same choice for writing: only DAO...

Any hints welcome.

Thx and brdgs,

Thierry

A simple ISO image contains nor raw data( probably that's the reason that you are not given the option to write in RAW mode) neither the data that will fool the copy protection to authenticate the copied disk as the original one. Please try to find which is the disk's copy protection( you can use ProtectionID for that, you can find it in the web) and use the corresponding Alcohol's datatype to make an image and then a copy of the disk.

Thanks Charalambos.

Ok, but even when I do an image with Alcohol, I get only the DAO option to write it?

I checked with Protection ID... But all I got was "bad sectors"... so I used that datatype, but it's still not working... :-(

I'm afraid tehre muts be somethin else...

What disc is the one that you are trying to copy? If it is a DVD then there is no RAW DAO option( there are no commercial users that can do it), just make the image with Alcohol and burn it with the appropriate datatype. If ProtectionID doesn't find any copy protection on the disk then check the game's? (it would be usefull to know what we are exactly talking about) installation folder because there are copy protections like SecuROM that can be detected in this way only. And of course you have the original disk, aren't you? If not and the disk is copy protected then we are wasting our time.

It's possibly due to the version of Alcohol you are using. You may need to obtain the latest version, but that also means upgrading your OS, since the latest version will not work with Windows ME. But even then, you cannot burn a disc with RMPS emulation for use in another device besides your computer. RMPS emulation REQUIRES Alcohol be present to provide the emulation support.

Jito, I think that at least the last version that works on Windows 9x (1.9.5.3105 if I remember correctly) supported writing in RAW mode. In fact since I am a customer of Alcohol I can't remember a version that it didn't.

I have also removed your signature alkashik as it is violation of our rules (no external links) and quite frankly I would consider those type of links illegal (by morality) and nothing but cheating. If you can't get a qualification using your own brain, you don't deserve one and it also cheapens the qualification of those who have worked hard to get their own.
