Hi,

I am trying to use the trial version of Alcohol 52% on my Windows XP laptop. The installation went well with no problems and I mounted the image onto the new virtual drive (G), again no problems there. I have tried various ways to start the program (from the shortcut, opening up the virtual drive and running from there etc) and all seems to be ok at first, because I get the splash screen pop up which give me the options to 'Install', 'Run', 'Exit', as I would expect.

When I then click on the 'Run' button on the splash screen the program then tries to access my DVD drive (E) and not the virtual drive (G) so will not start. Obviously if I then put the CD in drive (E) everything works ok, but it continues to access the CD and not the virtual drive.

I hope you can help with what I assume is a minor problem

Attached below is my system report

Kind regards
Tim_N

Try uninstalling the program then reinstalling from the virtual drive. Some games looks for the disc in the drive they were installed from rather than searching the available drives for the disc.

Hi Zamiel,

I have done as you suggested and uninstalled the software via 'Add and Remove Programs' in the control panel. I then opened up the Virtual drive (G) and used the Setup utility from within that drive. The install process appears to run ok and it installs to the path C:\KA Dummies and an icon appears in the Start menu. The only error message I receive is that the version of Quicktime installed is newer than on the software being installed, but I can't see how that would affect anything? Unfortunately, as before, when I try and run the program a pop up appears saying " The Spanish for Dummies CD was not found in drive E, Please replace CD and click OK to continue or click Cancel to exit this program"

Is there something I can do so that when I create the virtual drive and mount the image I can make the software "forget" it was originally run from the DVD (E) Drive?

Thank you for your help so far and I await your reply.

Regards
Tim

How old is this CD? Some old programs work only if their disc is in the first listed CD/DVD drive after the hard one(s). Try swapping the letters of the two drives so that the letter E is assigned to the virtual one. You can do it with the Windows' Disk Manager (you can find it in Alcohol's "View" dropdown menu).
