Hi...

I think I just had an idea how to improve Alcohol, if only in some far future version.

It currently is for impossible for many people to burn the images they have made of their discs, so if they want to have a backup, they'll have to waste 700-900MB of precious HD capacity for each disc. This could possibly be avoidable even if noone will ever be able to 100% successfully burn some copy protections:

Alcohol is currently able to emulate some copy protections. This enables the user to copy his copy protected CDs even if he cannot duplicate the copy protection because it will be "added" on the fly when accessing the disc.
This is however impossible when it comes to SecuRom v4.8x.

But shouldn't it be possible to assign HD-stored mds-files (with the DPM information) to CDs?
Let's say, every time I put a CD called "UT2003_CD1" into a CD drive, Alcohol will automatically notice, enable the magical SecuRom 4.8x emulation option and load the appropriate mds-file.

That's just a rough idea but maybe that could be implemented some time... I think it would greatly improve the benefit of Alcohol for all those who do not have a 100%-supported CD-RW drive.

Sergei
