Latest version of 120% in Vista Options

In XP SP2, I absolutely loved this software, so I'm not quite ready to give up on this for Vista.

Upon completion of the install, Explorer becomes confused with the virtual drive, and then crashes -- bringing Windows with it. After this happens, Explorer will not start without crashing, and Windows will boot into this once before you have to go into Safe Mode. My only solution has been to completely remove it via-safe mode. Is there any way to get Alcohol 120% to co-operate?

Sorry, one thing I forgot to mention was that I could never actually get past the install and into the actual program to generate a report.

Which version of Vista and which version of Alcohol are you using.

Do you use the retail version of Vista Ultimate? Does the installation completes? If yes then you must run Alcohol as Administrator for the first time( the user accounts created in Windows Vista are by default of the restricted type). if no then try to install Alcohol in Safe Mode. Please report any error messages that you received or will receive while trying to install or to run Alcohol.

same problem here, but i coudnt get into safemode either, had to fast-uninstall it during boot from windows, i saw that when it tryed to install the drivers for the virtual cd/dvd drive it caused vista to crash

Yeah just had the same prob... only there is no way into the computer I just bought... arghhhh! No to safe mode and no to quick dump... no way to send you a report... any ideas?

Boot from your Windows disk, enter the Recovery Console and in the C:\Windows\system32\drivers directory rename the sptd.sys to sptd.sys.old or delete it. In this way you'll be able to enter into Windows after exiting the recovery console as far as Alcohol's sptd.sys is the cause of the problem.

I just ran into the same problem. I am running Vista Business. Vista popped up warning me that this driver had not been tested, I said ok...and then BSOD. I restored it to right before the install, and all is well. I guess Alcohol isn't ready to take on Vista yet. Which is not an insult, considering creative is just now getting around to getting their drivers fixed....Anyways, hope I see a vista version for download or a patch sometime in the near future.

Which version of Alcohol did you install? If it was the 1.9.5.3105 version, then it's not compatible with Vista and is labelled as such on the download page. 1.9.6.4719 supports Vista and the driver is compatible. Based on your description, it sounds like you installed the wrong version.

just to tell you that my vista business crashed after I have installed Alcohol120% 1.9.6.4719 . I couldnt even get into safe mode so I reinstalled the windows.

You should not have problems if your vista OS is a clean install, if you are having problems and have upgraded to Vista or even if you have done a clean install.

OS upgrades are currently not supported, due to incorrect registry handling during OS upgrade.
Users should try to execute standalone installer to fix this problem. http://www.duplexsecure.com/en/downloads

If it doesn't help, users should uninstall all software using SPTD layer (e.g. Alcohol,Daemon Tools), remove/disable SPTD layer, and reboot. After reboot users
should delete entire sptd key in registry services hive (enable all permissions of cfg key first),
then re-install SPTD layer using v1.42 standalone installer.

After required reboot users should ensure correct SPTD layer installation by executing standalone installer again - if it says "1.42 detected", users can continue to re-install

I've experienced the same problem using the Technet Version of Vista Ultimate.

The problem occured after loading an non complete copy of an iso. Windows would slowly completly lock. Almost every process can be killed, except alcohol.

CTRL+ALT+DEL, reboot. Hangs trying to reboot. Shutdown the hardway.

On next boot, after the Vista Loader, the screen never comes back from black.

Just a note, I used Windows File And Settings Transfer Wizard to move computers, perhaps thats related.

I also got the {reboot, bsod} loop with no safe mode option. Though I won't even pretend to be knowledgeable enough to get Alcohol working, I was able to get Vista back up with everything intact. Hit F8 during boot up to get to some advanced settings screen, choose Repair Windows, and then system restore to the point just before installing Alcohol (or perhaps even earlier, if you want). This worked perfectly for me, though I'm not sure it will for everyone. Saves a lot of hassle.

When in installed alcohol 120%, the system just hangs up. The blue screep pops and it dumps all the memory. It happens every time i restart computer. I have about 5-10 second what ever i can do and the system shutsdown automatically. What can i do. My system does not have this spld.sys file that i can change. How can i uninstall it?

just to add, it will do the same thing in safe mode even worse. The login screen does not even appear
