Firstly i would like to nominate the designers of Alcohol a special award for innovation, congratulations guys you have done the impossible and actually made Microsoft look competent!
Thanks to you my cd rom no longer is detected and I've tried everything, and now I'm facing the lugubrious task of reinstalling windows, thanks to you I have lost business because i have missed a production deadline.
So my suggestions for product enhancement? Give up! and perhaps change jobs (might I suggest becoming traffic wardens? that way you can still be hated on a daily basis, but your influence will be a million miles away from my computer!)
Mahalo, assholes!
My suggestions! please read

Dude if you are going to channel the hawaii spirit you got to chill a bit!!!
First had you just asked how to fix it you would have an easier time and faster response and less if no work lost at all. all you needed was the Devsupp patch mostlikely and you would have been golden. But I dont see a question of help just one of anger. Go get the devsupp patch here on the forums and try it again, then hope that you can then relax and truly channel the spirit!
Mahalo.
Peace be with you!

Nothing works! I tried the patch but nothing,I've tried every solution posted in here and still nothing. The cd rom gets detected, windows installs the driver for it but then tells me it cant find the device! what kind of madness is this? It seems that every solution the support guys come up with is to blame everything and everyone except their company and designers.
I'm using an NEC dvd RW ND2500A with win XP sp2.
so far this has been the most annoying 2 days of my life.

Did you tried to do a System Restor to a Restor Point before the problem apeared? Another thing you can try is to uninstall Alcohol, run sfc/scannow from the command line( it requires the windows CD in a working drive and it will restore any corrupted system files) and then install Alcohol again. Or just uninstall Alcohol, try to fix the problem and then instal it again, if you haven't tried. I have also WinXP SP2 and NEC DVD-RW ND-2510A, and no problem with Alcohol's latest version. But problems sometimes occur, and then they are best anticipated with patience and the support that can be offered e.g. from this site.
