I am trying to make a backup copy of my RollerCoaster Tycoon3 Platinum game disc. The users manual says it is ok to make one back up copy. When I try to copy it, I get this error. I will attach the log file if that will help diagnos it.

Thank You for any help you can provide.

Yor error indicates that your disc is scratched or dirty.

I just double checked and both the RCT3 disc and the CDR disc are pristine, no scratches, no fingerprints and no dust. Any other possibilities?

Thanks

does reducing the read speed help or the use of another drive.

Make sure you're using the correct profile in Alcohol. RCT3 uses SecuROM 5 as best I can tell, but your log doesn't indicate DPM extraction which is necessary for this copy protection. Use the SecuROM *New [4.x/5.x] profile and try again.

I ran everything at the slowest speed I could. According to the instructions from RTC3 Platinum (which has the both the soaked and the wild expansion packs included on the disc) they give you permission to make a backup copy. I will try the DPM extraction.

Thanks

Yes, they all give you permission. But that doesn't mean they have to make it easy to do so. Copy protections are designed to make is as difficult as possible to copy.

OK I ran it with dpm set to 1x and it had a failure so I looked at the log and it said the read was raw + sub so I set the record to raw +sub (was auto set at sao/dao) and also clicked resolve sub. Itburned sucessfully however when I insert the disc to start the game I get an error box titled 'Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Platinum' saying 'Please insert the original disc instead of a backup, See www.securom.com/copy for more details.'

Here is the dpm log that did not burn.

First of all you must make an image with the SecuROM NEW* (4/5/7) datatype as Jito said. This datatype has the proper settings ready for you( skip read errors, read subchannel data and DPM) so use it without changing anything. For extracting the DPM use high presicion and 1x speed as you did. When you are finished mount the image to a virtual drive and test if you can play with it. If it doesn't report the error message that you receive. If it does then you can just use it as it is or burn it with the same datatype that you made it, which includes burning the RMPS information to the disk. In order to use the burned disk you need the RMPS emulation that is offered by Alcohol or Daemon Tools, in Alcohol get into its options and enable the "RMPS emulation" one.

OK I was able to copy an image using the Securom 4/5/7 setting. I figured out how to activate a virtual drive since none existed and I mounted the image and was able to play the game using the virtual drive. Now I'm not sure I understand the burning part. I need to burn a copy using the Securom 4/5/7 setting again and if so, what other settings or are the default settings correct? And this disc will not play without Alcohol or some other emulation program installed on the system? Is this Alcohol 120% trial version the emulation program or is there another program for that purpose? I am guessing the Alcohol image file or CD will not install the program, only play it is this correct?Sorry if I'm pestering, I do appreciate the help.

Thanks

Alcohol will need to be installed on the PC your going to run the disc in, even though the image worked in virtual drive you may not be able to burn a working image. But yes you will need to use the Securom settings when writing to disc

If you are unable to burn a working copy, you can always burn the image as a data file to a DVD and then when you want to play just put that disc in and mount the image on that disc. That way you can play off that disc and save the original from damage. But as Phoenix states, you will need Alcohol installed to play it.
