hi

i dl new version of alcohol 120% to try...

and then when i tried open winamp, comp would freeze. so i had to restart.

and every time i load windows, it takes like a minute, after i type my pw at welcome screen. it used to take like 10 seconds to load windows after welcome screen.

so i just un-installed alcohol 120%, now my optical drives dont recognise discs. and when i click on the optical drives, windows explorer freezes

and winamp still freezes when i try to open it.

i un-installed alcohol 120%, yet problems still exist....

im running xp sp2

cheers

Your problem is most likely associated with SPTD layer

Set the "start" registry entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\sptd to 4.

Reboot.

Delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\sptd registry key and all of its subkeys and entries.

Reboot.

Run the stand-alone install for SPTD again. http://www.duplexsec...om/en/downloads

Good. Now try to install SPTD from that link (should be version 1.49) and then install Alcohol again.

There is a version 1.49 on the sight..... You might want to make sure you are using the latest version first to avoid a problem again..... Hope it works for you.....

SPTD 1.49 is still beta, which is why it wasn't available from that link above. If you want to try it, click here.

Install SPTD v1.49. Reboot. Install Alcohol 120% trial. See if it works (it should now)!

SPTD (SCSI Pass Through Direct) is a necessary driver component for the virtual drives. Without it, the virtual drives cannot operate.

No, the trial version of Alcohol is only limited in two ways.

1) You can only create 4 (or 6, can't remember) virtual drives

2) It will only work for 30 days before requiring you purchase the full version

Other than those two limitations - and the fact that it cannot be registered - the trial version is identical to the full version.

There are no restrictions in the software other than a limitation to 6 virtual drives instead of 31 in both Alcohol 52% and 120% and the ability to write to only two drives at the same time as opposed to 8 or more writers in Alcohol 120%.

ok cheers

i have question about using it.

if my dvd game is 6.7GB
does that mean i have to choose "separate Image file every" to 4GB? so that it separates the 6.7GB into 4GB and 2.7GB, and that way i can burn the 2 images to 2 dvd discs? otherwise it wont fit on 1 dvd blank?

That would depend on the file system you are running, NTFS can support larger files. You will be unable to burn a Dual Layer game to two Single Layer discs. You could however burn the individual files to a disc using nero so you have a number of discs with MDF/S files on them. When you want to play the game, you copy all of those files back to your hard drive, mount and play.

Other way would be to buy a dual layer disc if you have a dual layer burner smile.gif

Well if you put the disc in your drive you should be able to look at the properties of it. If the disc is over 4.3 gig then is is a duel layer disc. Since it is 6.7 GB it is a duel layer disc. To make a copy you can make an image of it. If your drive is capable of burning a duel layer disc then you can just burn it to a duel disc (you can purchase these blanks from a store). If your drive will not allow that and can only write single layered discs then split the image into 4 GB parts. Then use Nero like zamiel said to write the discs. You will then have two discs. When you want to play the game you would have to copy the images off both discs back to your hard drive and mount them to play. Since you do not want to mount it to a virtual drive you will If you will have to consider buying one since they are not that expensive any more....... Hope that explains it..........
