I am trying to make an ISO image (From CD) for Battlefield2 and Battlefield2 Special Forces. Cannot complete the processes using the "Image Making Wizard". The dump/recording progress log states a "Disc read error at: 823". The disk works fine and shows very little wear. This is my first exposure/install of Alcohol 120%. Any suggestions?

The disc read errors are normal and are present in the first few percent of the disc, just let them pass through.

The Uncorrectable Error you've encountered generally means there is a problem with the source disc and it's either scratched or dirty, try cleaning your source disc and try again. One could assume if the heads of the drive are also dirty then it also could produce the same issue.

If neither are dirty try changing the default control interface inside Alcohol's options to the windows one.

You should also not use the ISO format for BF2 as it is unable to store the necessary protection information.

In fact ISO format can contain read errors, so it is an option for Safedisk that doesn't have to do with subchannel data or DPM.

Thank you for the help as I mentioned I am new to the Alcohol Software product and appreciate all the help I can get. I think the issue steamed from choosing the wrong DataType. As mentioned BF2 should be using SafeDisk 2/3/4 per the ProtectionID.

1. If I'm not supposed to use the ISO format, because it cannot store the necessary protection informaiton. Then what format should I be using? Are their guidelines that I am not aware of for choosing the correct format type?

2. How do you determine when and when not to use an ISO format? I've always used ISO as it seemed to be the most standard format for Application/Software CD's which don't typically contain protection information.

Use Alcohols native format mdf/mds.

Iso is OK when no copy protection is involved.

Fair enough, I used Alcohol's native format using the lowest possible speed to create the image format. Mounted the mdf file to the virtual drive and launched BF2 via my desktop shortcut. The game goes to launch, but then dumps to a Dr. Watson error (Faulting application bf2.exe).

Anymore ideas?

Try to launch your game through Alcohol (mount Image in drive ...).

You might also need to look at forms of blacklisting removal with the use of YASU when playing from the image. Simply download and run.

I know your going to think I'm crazy, but I uninstalled 120% and installed 52%, because I really don't need the ISO burning capabilities. Using the same methods as mentioned prior and it works!

Taking the application error in account probably something just went wrong while creating the image the first time.
