Hi there,

I'm very new at this, and I've been doing some research to understand what's actually going on in the background. What I tried to do is create mds/mdf files for a game I have so that I can play it without popping in the CD each time. I use one of these small mdf files for Warcraft III, which I found online a while back -- it's only a 26kb mds file accompanied by a 77kb mdf file. Currently, I have created an mds file by simply inserting the DVD and using the image creator, but what I have is a 6gb mdf file and an mds file that doesn't work as it comes off as a Backup disk. I was wondering (and assuming) that there were more tools I needed to get to achieve my desired result, but I haven't been able to determine exactly which ones are important. If anyone could offer a push in the right direction, or perhaps a tutorial that I was unable to find before, I would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry, those images are not supported on this forum due to their dubious legal nature. When you make a backups of a commercial software it should be in its entirety and not just partially.

Thanks for your response, and I can see where you are coming from. What do you suggest I use or do in order to get this 6gb image to read as the real thing?

What is it an image of and how was it made settings inside Alcohol selected)?

What protection exists on the original disc? (use Protection ID to work it out)

What error message do you get?

Why was it not made off the original disc? (you may very well find it will have to be).

-The game is BioShock. Since it is a DVD, the only options I have are "Seperate Image file every (NEVER SEPARATE)", "Skip reading errors (unchecked)", and lastly "Data Position Measurement (unchecked)".

-I downloaded Protection ID and scanned the game's exe file (was this correct?). It came up with "SecuROM Detected - Version 7.xx"

-The error is as follows:
QUOTE
"Please insert the original disc instead of a backup (1000).

Please have a look at http://www.securom.c...p?m=copy&c=1000 for further, more detailed information."

-It was made off of the original disc.

Sorry, misread your original post, I thought you made the image off a backup cd etc

When making an image of a SecuRom DVD you will need to use DPM with maximum read speed and high precision then burn the image with RPMS enabled.

It may try and mount the image in the virtual drive to see if it is a good image before burning it to a dvd. With SecuRom 7.xx you might find a conflict with disc emulator error. Try downloading a program called YASU and running that when playing off the backup.

I've been playing around a bit with no luck. I deleted the old mds/mdf files and redid them with the options you suggested. I also got YASU and it says that it's cloaking everything correctly. Lastly, I mounted the image on the virtual drive and also set the RMPS setting to on in the Emulation menu. You originally said to burn the image, but did you mean that I would have to run this from a DVD?

You don't have to burn the image to a DVD to get it to go.

Mount the image on the virtual drive, install the game from the virtual drive and then try to play the game. If you get the conflict with disc emulator message, run YASU then try playing the game again.

Make sure you use the settings above when trying to obtain the DPM from the disc.

I originally installed it with the original disc and not the mounted one, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it with just the mounted one. At the end of the installation, however, it told me that the disc was a backup as usual and then seemingly uninstalled itself. It's really weird. I'm currently emulating it with RMPS and YASU, but no luck yet.

@wyzard

Crysis has the latest Securom version which needs an updated SPTD or Alcohol.

@pigmonkey

This error message means that your image isn't good enough. As zamiel said:

Of course the last step is for making a backup disk if you want so.

That was referring to the high precision DPM with maximum read speed.

If obtaining the DTP at maximum speed doesn't work try with the next lower ones untill making an image that won't give you that error message. Of course you will probably receive the "Conflict with emulation software" error message instead of it but you'll at least have a good image.

So I take it your saying I need to wait till alcohol is updated to handle the latest securom which is on Crysis...right?

Just wondered if alcohol worked with Crysis yet. I got the "Conflict with Emulation Software detected" message. I'm using alcohol 52% and I tried YASU but it didn't
seem to do any thing (I'm on vista 64). The strange thing is when I tried to make an image it would only give me a limited number of options for the Data type. So
I was able to choose SecuROM but not SecuROM *NEW(4/5/7) any idea why that would be as I get what I assume is the full list of options when there is no DVD in the drive.
